A primary consideration in the choice of a vice president is the need to make the president assassination-proof. You need someone in the VP slot who your enemies would like even less than you. JFK had Johnson, a BIG mistake, given that Johnson was far more desirable to the military establishment. That was a huge incentive to take out JFK and get the president of their choosing. Reagan had Bush as a VP and also had an assassination attempt, probably for the same reason. Bush, on the other hand, took Dan Quayle as the VP idiot-in-chief. No incentive for any leftist assassins there! Clinton had Gore, who was not a step up for right-wing assassins. Bush Jr. had Cheney...primo assassination insurance.
What it comes down to is Sanders needs a VP who could out-Sanders Sanders so the Sanders revolution would roll on with or without the president and thus remove the incentive. The only choice I see on the horizon is Elizabeth Warren. We need a Sanders/Warren ticket now!
