Who
would have guessed it? You could write a headline like this and not even
need to mention a name? Mitt Romney has found more ways to shoot himself
in the foot than he has feet. And the latest gaffe reveals far more than
the average loose mic gotcha moment ever reveals. Here's the thing that
gets me: many of the 47 percent who pay no income tax are seniors--and
many of them are Romney seniors. According to the Tax Policy Center--the
same outfit from which Romney got his numbers--of the 18.1 percent of households
that paid no income or payroll taxes, more than half of
them are seniors, retirees , for pity's sake.
Mitt Romney, it turns out, knows less about the American electorate--and cares
less--than he ever did about all those companies he bought and sold after
larding them with deadbeat LBO debt. He's a numbers guy, eh? Well I
sure wouldn't trust him with any numbers required to get him elected president.
That he falsely equates the 47 percent of the voting public who reliably
support President Obama with the 47 percent who pay no income tax as the exact
same subset of Americans is beyond astonishing. It's so damned stupid
that I'm beginning to think he's not even shrewd. And I always thought he
was shrewd. " ...
