The Brokeback Mountain and two gay cowboys

Message cumhur ozkaya

How the western was spread about 30 years before, its rating is so low today. I and my generation was child while Clint Eastwood, Henry Fonda and John Wayne kill the bad cowboys. But our parents remember they watched those actors at cinema halls and they say it was exciting.

Brokeback Mountain film won the best director, the best movie and the best screen-play Oscars at 2005. It tells 2 gay cowboys love.

Western cinema has been in low since American life style has exceeded the west side history and symbols of this history. There were animals and its industry before 1900's and 2 World Wars, Vietnam, cold war with Soviets and Iraq have been living till 2000's. So new social roles, heroes, enemies and crashes place to Hollywood and western evaluates new forms. Western story has been based with other kinds, are like comedy, horror, even science-fiction for 20 years. Its loyal watchers are not alive or don't watch film.

True Grit, by Cohen brothers, is playing in world cinema halls today. I haven't watched but I know its story on female heroism. When we remember old films we can claim this film doesn't trail the classical western. Classical westerns tell story of "hero cowboys'. Some comedies and other kinds are together with western, this is related with passing between kinds and this is not particular to western, sure.

2 cowboys in "BrokebackMountain' film are gay. This is the golden shut for western. Hero cowboy characters evaluate to love boys. The actor Heat Ledger, who dies while playing at "Dr. Parnassus', is like going after role friend Jake Gyllenhaal at 2008 (3 years later Brokeback Mountain). Director is Ang Lee. Ennis (Ledger) and Jake are son of old great and rich cowboys. They are last generation of cowboys and they are poor, needs to job. I will not tell the story. Their dialogues appear the collapse of west side life.

They are charged with shepherd at BrokebackMountain and love begins at here. Injuring moments, dinners, friendships and other cowboy acts change and visuals of two cowboys are unordinary until first sex moment. Ennis has religion, he prays, he has some bad memories about homosexual relation, he has a girlfriend and he is much more responsible than Jake, he has to earn much money. These psychological and other conditions accessed him to escaping at relation with his bf. Jake hasn't any religion; he is relaxed and wants much more Ennis. Film's characters are these. They get merry (with girls) and meet once in a year.

Rhetoric of film is supporting social roles but it blesses the love. Ennis and Jake are in love but they are altough egoist. Ennis is active, Jake is passive. When I saw all of film, Jake is like bad boy according to rhetoric. He stirs up Ennis, Ennis hasn't any idea about homosexuality until comes across with Jake, so? So Jake is killed terribly and Ennis goes on life with daughters.

This film's DVD was on my table for 2 months. I decided to watch, reason 1- Oscar, and reason 2- Story. I think John Wayne and Clint Eastwood or other stars wouldn't decline Ennis and Jake roles. But when people who lived 40 years before would watch this film they would be shocked.
