Drill Baby Drill

Recently our oil companies were given permission to drill just about anywhere along the Gulf of Mexico to get oil. Rather than try to curb our use of fossil fuels, our right wing Bible bangers insisted that we could just drill for oil anywhere. Now oil is gushing out in the Gulf of Mexico and damaging the environment, and disrupting the Southern shrimp harvest. Even right wing ideologue, Bobby Jingal has declared a state of emergency.

What happened to the whole idea that we can just pave the whole planet over and drill for fossil fuels along the way? Why not just turn the whole planet into one giant burning oil slick? Right wingers claim that the Bible gives them the right to destroy and stampede across the earth like a bunch of locusts.

Right wingers have even created a conspiracy about the environmentalists who might make money off of this whole "green" bit. How much money exactly has been made off of oil? Didn't ExxonMobile make the most profit of any company ever? Doesn't that give them too much power to control the energy policy of this country?

Now that the Gulf of Mexico is burning are these "drill baby drill" types going to come to their senses?

I doubt it. The oil companies have been paying off politicians for quite a long time, and using advertising to make themselves look good. They have also spent a great deal of money shelving any green ideas that would put them out of business. I propose that in order to move on in this country and stop the bribery, the oil companies need to be nationalized. The interests of our planet and the interests of our country's energy policy should come before any profit making.

Imagine if we the people got the profits of the oil companies and we the people decided to change how we transport ourselves. How can we go forward without capping these corporation's powers? How many wars exactly have been fought over oil? I would take a gamble and say that the Vietnam War and the wars in the Middle East have been fought over oil.

I enjoy writing about political/ economic events, and I am especially concerned about the US as a warlike nation. I would like to see this nation turn itself around from a conquering nation in both commerce and war to a nation of peace. I hope that (more...)
