We, the People need to adjust our focus!

Whenever our country suffers a tragedy such as Sandy Hook the usual response is to focus on gun laws in a frantic, phobic, and even manic rage!   Such a focus is like plugging one hole in a dike that is riddled with other soon to be active holes!   There is no doubt that our gun laws need to be, not only better, but better enforced also!   It is also just as obvious that if the gun laws were perfect and well enforced these tragedies would still happen just as often!   Our country, partly due to our Puritan ethics, denies the existance of mental health!  We not only must recognize mental health problems, we must all have mental exams along with our physical ones on a yearly basis!  This would be not only connected to our driving rights but our access to guns or other weapons that would endanger our citizens as well.   Ideally this would be a part of a National Health program that covers physical, mental, eyesite, and dental health.   I know there will be many who fear the loss of their rights in this scenario but if these laws and programs are enacted properly there will be no loss of rights and we will live in a much safer country.   Our country is inflicted with a sound byte society mind-set that tends to focus on the first thing that comes to mind when major events occur.   This mind-set has caused a great deal of our current problems and will continue to until we educate people to begin to think events through before going off half-cocked and allowing the political manipulators to push us whatever way they want!
