Texas Senator Cornyn returned to Texas, after leading bipartisan talks on a weak gun control bill, only to discover that his fellow Republicans were furious at him for participating in any deal. He left D.C. after he & other negotiators spent days ironing out details, but were unable to reach a final agreement as they ran up against a self-imposed deadline to get the bill written this week. Meanwhile, committee members hashing out the Texas GOP platform at its convention in Houston advanced a resolution rejecting the gun deal in its current form & rebuking 10 Republicans who publicly supported it. “All gun control is a violation of the Second Amendment,” the resolution says. Clearly, the Texas GOP wants no limits whatever on the right of any individual to buy a gun of any kind, any size, any caliber, no matter whether they are deranged or have a criminal background or are terrorists."
