Brazilian right-wing is calling for a coup "to save the country again from communism" which would mean to end PT's anti-poverty programs. These had a doubtless positive effect despite lots of what there is to be done still. A corruption scandal at "Petrobras" - Brazil's state oil company - affected PT, but everybody seems to have forgotten that President Fernando Collor de Melo has been impeached in 1992 for corruption precisely. That impeachment involved a spectacular assassination of the businessman Paulo Cesar Farias - key contributor to Collor de Melo's campaign - who had to be deported from Thailand. Labeled back then as "a crime of passion", it paralized over 50 investigations at the time. The latter didn't bother - or allowed - Collor de Melo to return later as a Federal Senator.
