'What Could Be More Important?' Biodiversity Loss Threatens Us, not just cute animals

Scientists at the United Nations' intergovernmental body focusing on biodiversity sounded alarms earlier this month with a report on the potential extinction of one million species—but few heard their calls, according to a German newspaper report. Title says it all.

Because most of us live in cities and spend our time in artificial environments, it is easy for us to ignore the fact that our very existence is supported by a global ecosystem.  No, we can't turn the earth into a giant farm to support humans.  We don't know how.
