The President declared a major disaster existed in the State of New Hampshire and ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm during the period of February 23 to March 3, 2010. Federal funding was made available to State and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe winter storm in the counties of Grafton, Hillsborough, Merrimack, Rockingham, Strafford, and Sullivan. Federal funding was also made available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide. Source

The President declared a major disaster existed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and ordered Federal aid to supplement Commonwealth and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms and flooding beginning on March 12, 2010, and continuing. The President's action made Federal funding available to individuals in Bristol, Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, and Worcester Counties. Assistance available included grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster. Federal funding was also made available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide. Source

The President and First Lady Michelle Obama marked the beginning of Passover with a Seder at the White House.

Vice President Joe Biden hosted a conference call with Governor Mitch Daniels (R-IN), Governor Martin O'Malley (D-MD), Governor Bev Perdue (D-NC) and Mayor Adrian Fenty (D-DC) to discuss implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. of 2009. Source

Vice President Joe Biden telephoned Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to extend his wishes for a quick recovery and to congratulate Mubarak on the birth of his first granddaughter, Farida Mubarak. The Vice President told President Mubarak that he looks forward to rescheduling his visit to Egypt to a future date. Source

United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticized Canada for not inviting Sweden, Finland, and Iceland for the Arctic summit held near Ottawa and made early departure from the summit without attending the closing news conference. Source
