Trust but verify. That's what President Ronald Reagan advised. It also happens to be accurate.
Hearing criminals account for themselves is in the public interest, because it enables the public to react appropriately and to more skillfully protect itself from similar criminal acts in the future.
We demand justice be sought through our justice system. Anything other than the American justice system is not justice in America. Anything other than the American justice system is not in the public interest of Americans.
Furthermore, enough of the damned amnesty already.
I say, no more amnesty for likely terrorists, who we have good reason to believe killed Americans.
I say, no more amnesty for likely criminal telecoms, who we have good reason to believe have spied on many Americans.
Who is promoting all this amnesty? Who is promoting all this secrecy? It is not the public from what I can see. If they have done nothing wrong, then they have nothing to worry about. Give them full and fair trials. Do it the best way we know how. Don't we deserve it?
It is far overdue to compel all these criminals to appear in a court, a real, honest to goodness American court, with no filtering by military personnel. I love the military, but ya don't belong in my court system, and ya don't have any business filtering people's words in my court system.
Whatever else may be true, too many assumptions continue to exist until the truth comes out in a real American court, an imperfect system, yes, but by far the best justice system on the planet as far as I'm concerned.
The US military is not a neutral party regarding the crimes committed on the day of September 11. The military itself suffered the loss of the Pentagon that day. The Pentagon building is the symbolic and actual headquarters of the US military. It is unreasonable to expect a victim to have the ability to preside neutrally over a trial. Members of the military may still be suffering from the personal loss of that day.
The public must directly hear about these crimes from the criminals themselves. “Keeping the telecoms quiet is for our own good” sounds like BS. “Keeping the terrorist KSM quiet is for our own good” sounds like BS.
I am forced to take a drastic measure: I am calling BS. President Reagan would have called BS. He might have been more diplomatic about it. Not me. Enough already. We are in a state of high-level, official, BS. BS Alert Level Orange, verging on Red.
We should let the chips fall where they may, depending on what the accused say for themselves in front of a real and unconstrained American court system. It is well past the time for the chips to fall, and to fall exactly where they belong. No more assumptions. No more filters. May justice be served. It is time.
No more secrecy for terrorists and telecoms.
No more amnesty for terrorists and telecoms.
It is time to allow the US justice system a chance to work. And please, Department of Justice, do not get busy on citizens like me for talking. Please get busy on the years-old cases of the terrorists and the telecoms.
