Empire's Last Gasp: A two-act scenario

In the United States, we stare down cruelty by a Congress that has lost its way, its policies shaped by ignorance, thuggery, threats, and extortion. As a hearty survivalist, Occupy Wall Street has begun chopping at the roots of the real problem -- an economy stolen by what Marx and Lenin called "financial organizations." Still less than a year old, OWS has broadened its strategy and gained broader appeal, a response to the crimes committed against the 99%.

Still, many of us are mystified by the actions of a President who seems mesmerized by corporate power and stonewalled by a Congress whose principle objective is to 'block Obama.'

We are served by a media that nurtures stories (real and fictional) designed by the hegemony of culture, stories that encourage us to think short-term, grow impatient, and throw up our hands to mutter "What's the use?"

Surrounded by a society addicted to over-extended technology and shrinking global resources, in a nation that no longer has an industrial economy and cannot even afford to fill its downgraded role as Cops of the World. In short...

We are sitting in a darkened theater, still transfixed by the denouement of the Marx and Lenin Show -- Empire's Last Gasp.

Lights down. Applause. Lights up, curtain call, final curtain. The stunned audience files out, sad, cowed, and obedient, leaving a darkened theater -- silent, empty, and smelling faintly of cologne, perfume, sweat, cruelty, and tired breath.

That's where The Empire's at these days. And that's where the next show begins...
