Providence, RI will be celebrating resistance to empire at 12:30 pm at the Dexter-Training Grounds beside the Cranston Armory.
Rockland County, NY planned to hold an antiwar vigil and rally at the northwest corner of Route 59 and Middletown Rd in Nanuet, NY.
Salt Lake City will call for an end to the exploitation of American Indians, the U.S. to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, no more war for oil, carbon use reduction, and universal single-payer health care. They are organization under the slogan, “Five Centuries of Racist Colonialism are Enough!”
San Francisco will at 11 am engage in an antiwar outreach day that will last until 3 pm at 24th and Mission Streets. They will be fighting to put an end to JROTC military training recruitment programs. Their event is much different from others being held across the country so here is more information on why they are putting a laser-like focus on the JROTC:
It was on October 11, 2002 that a bi-partisan Congress approved the “Iraq
War Resolution” granting the Bush administration authorization to invade
Iraq. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2008--exactly six years after Congress unleashed
the dogs of war on Iraq--we will be launching a campaign to label San
Francisco an antiwar city again this November, 2008.In 2004 we voted Yes on N to bring the troops home from Iraq Now; in 2005 we
voted Yes on I, College Not Combat, to get military recruiters out of our
schools; this year we will vote NO on V, to get the Junior Reserve Officers'
Training Corps (JROTC) military training and recruitment program out of our
schools.JROTC IS A MILITARY TRAINING AND RECRUITMENT PROGRAM THAT TEACHES STUDENTS
TO FOLLOW THE LEADER WITHOUT QUESTION, NOT TO BECOME LEADERS!Proposition V, is a pro-JROTC, pro-military training and recruitment program
that is currently being phased out of our schools. Proposition V--a
non-binding initiative designed to put pressure on the Board of Education to
keep the program in the schools--has been put on the ballot with the
financial contributions of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and the
Republican Party among many other pro-war contributors with big bucks!
Lastly, Seattle will through a newly formed, diverse and democratic coalition bring a massive antiwar message to Seattle to “inject the antiwar agenda into the intensifying debate and to say no to the devastation of war abroad and its crippling economic effects at home.”
(Madison, WI will hold their event on Oct 12th. See website for more details.)
As reports are gathered from these events, they will be posted. If something is happening in your area, please go out and raise your voice.
I will be speaking at the end of the Chicago rally just before the march. What I say and do will set the tone for the march as we take off down the streets of the Pakistani community, a community deeply displeased with McCain and Obama for both have no qualms about bombing Pakistan.
I leave you with some words from Sen. Russ Feingold, Sen. Robert Byrd, Congressman Dennis Kucinich, and Congressman Ron Paul, who opposed the war in October 2002 and still continue to oppose the war today even when demands for funding come to the floor in Congress. If only more American people had the courage to fight like they do...
I am concerned that the President is pushing us into a mistaken and counterproductive course of action. Instead of this war being crucial on the war on terrorism, I fear it could have the opposite effect.
