Let's be clear, in no way is this short piece a defense of Assad and his regime who like Saddam Hussein is a brutal dictator.
But attacking Syria without conclusive evidence of who perpetrated the use of chemical weapons and without the U.N. authorizing an attack is an illegal, aggressive act of war (however quaint a notion that may be in light of other illegal acts of war the U.S. has been committing without U.N. authorization).
It's just the U.S. sees the U.N. as a minor impediment interfering with its aims and will dismiss the world organization at will, objections be damned.
When you exercise hegemony all over the world, you can act with impunity. Any questions?
