The people long suppressed don't dare to speak out to authority. The males in charge see no reason to alter the status quo.
Irshad Manji speaks to power. They have no response to the truth. They vilify her and threaten her with death. Remarkably, she continues her work with dedication. All of us can learn from her.
US Citizens Rarely Speak to Power
To find out what ordinary citizens think, I tune in Al Jazeera/English on Livestation.com. Exceptionally, I was watching the Morning Joe show when a black Congressman came on air. Ignoring the health care platitudes normally heard, he spoke about his constituents. Assembled in a town hall setting, he asked if anyone had heard of a death caused by a lack of health insurance. The audience responded 90% with hands raised.
The Morning Joe staff was speechless, as if none of them had ever thought about the deaths caused by inaction and delay.
