As long as we're on the subject of truth, I want to wind this diary up with a photo essay. One huge difference between this war and wars past is the media's perception of its duty to show the reality. Graphic images of wounded boys who have barely started to shave were a regular staple during Vietnam, which the Afghanistan war has now officially run longer than. Perhaps this is why. The Pentagon figured out that humans react as humans when confronted with human pathos, and when people see the reality, they start asking questions. It is much easier to dismiss something which does not haunt you as an image during your morning coffee break, or at odd times during the day.
Warning, strong images, and I don't care if you Neocons don't like it. As you like to say so often, tough guys, this is war. Call me a "libtard." I think you're sick.
What strikes most at times is the youth. I want to holler
out: "My God! Someone take that huge gun away from that child and get
him out of there! He could get hurt!"
It was the same in Vietnam:

Another famous Vietnam image:
But now, daring to release an image of death in war earns a
media outlet the full wrath of the Neocon right and the Pentagon. This
photo of the dying Cpl. Joshua Bernard, age 21, after getting hit by a
rocket-propelled grenade in Afghanistan received a furious
response from the Pentagon. Much more of this and we're out of
business, the evil men knew.
If you're crying right now that's good. It means you're still human. End the bloody wars.
