You too can take what you do at your job each and every day or what you do and class and turn it into an avenue for pursuing a future in America that will emancipate humanity and bring us closer to the society we wish to live in.
Primarily, I want to find a way to get my generation to show up. Showing up is a big part of democracy and not showing up and instead choosing to live in a world of electronic virtual reality (television, movies, video games, etc.) is antithetical to any change we think Barack Obama might be able to bring to the world if elected president.
Some time today while I am watching Sunday Night Football I will look at that special someone no matter who is in the room and I will say I have been conveniently hiding the full scope of my political mindset so I could enjoy your company and I want to spend time with you knowing you know what I think about the future of this country.
I want you to know the truth.
Anecdotally, Nader described how a veteran who was dirt poor donated $4,000 to his campaign. He called up to personally thank him and the veteran shouted into the phone, “I didn’t do it for you! I did it in protest, as a form of resistance.” He did it for the political future of America and the future generations of Americans in this nation.
Let’s not reduce the decision by people to stop capitulating at the voting booth to whether Ralph Nader deserves votes or not. The decision to vote third party means we have a movement for the majority which will enact policies that the Nader/Gonzalez campaign is pushing. It means getting onboard with something so organized even the lowest amount of funds will be used to produce results (Super Rallies, a media campaign, a ballot access campaign that employs young signature gatherers and gets the leader of this movement on the ballot in 45 states, etc.). It means fueling a campaign that hopes to go past 2008 and into 2009 with a campaign to establish watchdog groups in all congressional districts that will begin to say to our elected leaders either you vote this way or you aren’t going to get the votes necessary to continue your political career.
Everything we do in this election means so much because it determines what we will feel obligated to do after the circus makes its last stop in November. It can mean so much more if we release ourselves from the stranglehold of this dark political climate. But, it starts with us. And it starts now.
