Throughout his trial, Breivik was
described as a Christian Fundamentalist, a devout Islamophobe, and Zionist:
parallels to the Christian Right were fended off by Christian Right leaders as
impossible since it did not consider him Christian, and by noted anti-Islam
pundits such as Pamela Geller , who tried to tie Breivik with
"Islamic Supremacists."
Whither God's Ambulance Chasers?
Due to the outpouring of solace and sympathy from Aurora's own
churches, a "bible rain" may not be warranted, but one has to ask
just how the Christian Right will portray the hapless Denver suburb in the near
future: will it too be excoriated as a town that has abandoned God and
therefore, deserving of the massacre? When will signs be put up saying
"God Hates Aurora" ala Fred
Phelps?
And The Feeding Frenzy May Never End
Unconscionable as it may seem, the "Virtuous" Vultures
will continue to go on, tearing at the fabric of the nation's moral self-worth
until they have made Aurora synonymous with their theme of God's abandonment.
And yet they are simply taking advantage of a fortuitous event: the tragedy of Aurora could not have happened at
a better time for the Christian Right and its politicians, because incessant
moralizing during an election year can become tedious, while a seemingly
"senseless" tragedy can breath life into a "liberals support the
culture of death" meme.
"The whole National Guard couldn't make James do what is
right. He has become his own law, showing contempt for authority and doing what
is right in his own eyes. He is the product of the Culture of Death that the
DNC has embraced. ... This is the
spawn of the ideology of the Democratic Party and now we look at each other in
awkward amazement, wondering 'what in the world just happened?'" - Pat McEwen , Operation Save America.
The "Virtuous" Vultures have spoken.
*In a well-documented incident, the late Jerry Falwell responded to the
Asian Tsunami event with food, clothing and 600,000 Biblical tracts - to a
predominantly Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu population. The donation was
declined... on the airstrip. Falwell did not consider it an insult. Righteous arrogance breed stupidity.
