In wishing to strike Iran in a preemptive fashion, senators like Lieberman should pay close attention to this passage when it comes to Sunburn missiles, “The Sunburn can deliver a 200-kiloton nuclear payload, or: a 750-pound conventional warhead, within a range of 100 miles, more than twice the range of the Exocet. The Sunburn combines a Mach 2.1 speed (two times the speed of sound) with a flight pattern that hugs the deck and includes “violent end maneuvers” to elude enemy defenses. The missile was specifically designed to defeat the US Aegis radar defense system.”
In having our naval vessels within striking range of Iran, Lieberman should pay close attention to this fact concerning Sunburn missiles, “The Sunburn’s combined supersonic speed and payload size produce tremendous kinetic energy on impact, with devastating consequences for ship and crew.” So, basically our naval vessels will become death traps to our naval forces.
As Senator Lieberman shoots off his pie hole, Iran does have the capability of shooting off these deadly weapons in which many more of our military forces will become the target of their wrath. We have already lost so many of our brave forces in Iraq; can we afford to lose those that serve this nation on these naval vessels?
When Governor Bill Richardson declared that our best option is diplomacy, it is imperative for our nation’s security and the security of our military forces that he is listened to instead of Joe Lieberman. We need as a nation to ratchet down the tension and violence that we helped perpetrate within the Middle East instead of ratcheting it up by listening to those like Joe Lieberman.
