The sacrifice our troops are making and have made involves lies, torture, rape, bombs, murder, and the looting of trillions of taxpayer dollars to continue war crimes and crimes against humanity or to pay private contractors like Blackwater to “secure” Iraq, which ultimately leads to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
How could any decent human being support sacrifice for anything that promotes lies, torture, rape, bombs, murder, and the looting of trillions of taxpayer dollars and also, the pillaging and plundering of an entire society and culture---the Iraqi’s society and culture?
Bush, Cheney, Gaffney, and all these other think tank minds long, long ago found a way to ignore the sacrifice. It’s part of policymaking.
In order to argue for America’s best interest and in order to formulate foreign policy that is in America’s self-interest, one must forget that wars or conflicts or clandestine operations will result in the loss of life. So, Bush, Cheney, Gaffney, and others especially those from PNAC become out of touch with morality and recreate morality that fits their own agenda.
Americans know all too well that Bush is out of touch. Bush thought if soldiers could sacrifice their life or limbs to fight in Iraq, he could sacrifice golf. (See Keith Olbermann’s Special Comment.)
Bush was willing to sacrifice golf. Perhaps, Cheney was willing to sacrifice hunting and maybe Gaffney was willing to give up Reversi or Othello. (Who knows if they ever did? I doubt Cheney would sacrifice anything for anyone.)
What will President Obama sacrifice? Will he foolishly announce that he is giving something up so that soldiers can fight a bloody, senseless, immoral, and possibly illegal war in Afghanistan?
One might wonder if Bush, Cheney, Gaffney, and others could look a mother or father of a soldier in the face and tell them there never were weapons.
One might wonder if Bush, Cheney, Gaffney, and others could tell them that 4,000 would have had to die no matter what because no matter what America was going to war.
One might wonder if Bush, Cheney, Gaffney, and others would boldly state that 4,000 had to die and therefore, so did more than a million Iraqis. They had to die so that democracy could be created in Iraq.
It’s not the first time that America has been faced with people who show an utter lack of sensitivity for human life. After all, Madeleine Albright, who has helped Obama transition to the presidency, showed an utter lack of sensitivity on 60 Minutes in 1996.
Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?
Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price--we think the price is worth it.
Collateral damage is the euphemism that Albright or Gaffney might use. That, and other strategic foreign policy lingo is what those in power use to justify the loss of life so that they do not have to apologize.
The conversation between Corn, Gaffney, and Matthews exemplified this disconnect that policymakers will upon themselves so they can do their job.
GAFFNEY: No, the real reason is we thought he constituted a mortal threat to the American people and prophylactic action...
