Rick Unger of Forbes magazine wrote an article titled: "The Bomb Buried in Obamacare Exploded Today". The bomb entails a clause in the law requiring 80% of consumers' premium dollars they collect-85% for large insurance companies-on actual medical care rather than overhead, marketing expense, and profits.
The law further states that if they violate this rule, insurers will have to send the customer a rebate check represennting the amount in which they underspent on actual medical care.
If this is indeed in the bill, then is it any wonder the Republicans who most represent the rich elite are furious? Why even one of the supreme court judges, Roberts, who was long acknowledged as a Republican sweetheart, upheld the constitutional legitimacy of the bill.
I must say, I am one that looks at all politicians with deep skeptical eyes. I ultimately see them on the take of big money. That includes Obama. Yet, if this is indeed true to the insurance bill and there are no "small print" items to it that would kill the efficts, then I personally give a "thumbs up" with an ecstatic "Yes" to Obama.
I still remain skeptical, though and continue to believe that we must work towards self-sustaining communities. The fact is, we are continuing to allow our lives, including our healthcare, to be in the hands of corporations and government. It allows us to remain dependent and therefore at their mercy. Our best bet is to build local systems of care run by the community for the communities benefit.
When I say the community, I am also speaking of the Natural world for how we treat the environment is directly related to our health. Yes, the bird singing in the tree swaying in the wind and the ground that supports the tree as well as the Sun shining on that tree are part of my community. These are all my mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and children.
Yet, I smile at this clause that Unger reports at being part of the package. It may be short-term, but it is, indeed, a slap in the face to big business.
