Albuquerque Non-Profit Executive Director, Chuck McCune announces Hunger Strike and Call for Boycott of Large NGO's involved in withholding funds from Haiti.
Over 10 months after the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that destroyed Haiti's capital and surrounding towns, 1.8 million people are still sleeping under sheets and tarps. Haitians are dying of Cholera, no doubt delivered to Haiti by a foreign aid worker or soldier, most likely the UN Nepalese soldiers. Prizm Foundation efforts have been significantly hampered by inaction of large organizations that control of the bulk of relief funding. Executive Director Chuck McCune has decided that in order to call attention to the issues surrounding the slow pace and lack of adequate shelter, sanitation, clean water and recovery in Haiti that he will undertake a hunger strike until his demands are met or significant funds have been raised for Prizm Foundation programs in Haiti either through support from the large NGO's that are withholding the funds from Haiti or through public donations. Mr. McCune's action calls for the following:
à ‚¬
Boycott of American Red Cross, Clinton Foundation, Catholic Relief Services, Oxfam, Salvation Army, Food for the Poor, Mercy Corp., International Medical Corp., World Vision, and Care. More, as research progresses.
Red Cross
à ‚¬
Stop withholding funds to Haiti that were raised for Haiti and spend it all on shelter, water, sanitation, disease prevention and mitigation. The UN wants $164 Million for Cholera treatment, Red Cross has the money in the bank which was raised for Haiti, and the UN should get it from Red Cross.
IHRC and Clinton Bush Haiti Fund
à ‚¬
President Clinton - Start writing checks for Haiti or resign.
à ‚¬
Stop withholding funds and making excuses about long range planning, land tenure issues, etc.
à ‚¬
Pursue the delinquent worldwide pledges for Haiti; people are dying not just of Cholera, but starvation, exposure, other diseases, injuries, especially the extremely poor without voice.
United Nations
à ‚¬
UN remove Nepalese troops from Haiti as a symbolic gesture if nothing else
à ‚¬
UN MINUSTHA -" more helping, less shooting
à ‚¬
UN Either lower your weapons and administer aid or get out of Haiti (take a lesson from Gen. Honore)
à ‚¬
UN stop improper discharge of sewage from all UN compounds (fact-there is more than 1 doing this)
à ‚¬
UN Disclose the details of hanging execution of teenager Gerard Jean Gilles at UN Cap Haitien compound and allow independent investigation.
Prizm Foundation, (est. 2004) an Albuquerque based non-Profit organization specializing in disaster relief has, since inception, witnessed an ever increasing spread between funds raised by the large nonprofits and the money actually spent on aid to disaster areas. It has become clear that Disaster Relief = Big Business. Raise a lot, spend a little, bank the rest.
Mr. McCune feels he can no longer stand by without calling attention to this wholesale public donor deception and "Bait and Switch" fundraising tactics in the appeals for relief donations when a disaster strikes. His action demands accountability of these organizations and he demands independent audits of the organizations involved.
Contacts, referrals or suggestions are welcome. 100% of donations to Prizm Foundation for Haiti go to Haiti programs. For more information contact Chuck McCune 505.980.1437 or visit http://www.prizm.org.
