Action Needed Now: Oppose CTIA Petition to FCC

While the unconstitutional and undemocratic Telecommunications Act of 1996, infamous for allowing consolidation of corporate control over our media, already limits US citizens' ability to determine and achieve safe siting for cell phone towers (e.g., away from hospitals and schools), the CTIA (formerly the Cellular Telephone Industries Association, but now known as "CTIA - The Wireless Association") has presented a petition to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) which would further restrict communities' say over the limited zoning authority they still have.

Janet Newton of the EMR-Network explains:
"It is crucial for you as individuals and for your local government officials to speak up against the CTIA Petition now before the Federal Communications Commission.
"Submit your comment by September 29, 2008 as an individual citizen to oppose the wireless industry's Petition at the FCC to further limit local zoning authority over antenna siting decisions. You can submit your comment as an individual who has an opinion on the need to protect the rights of your local government to decide where wireless transmitters sites should be placed in your community."

The law firm of Miller and Van Eaton in Washington DC provides further information: .
(Choose the link on the right under "Hot Topics" entitled "FCC Issues
Two-Week Extension of Dates for Comments on CTIA Petition for Regulation of Local Tower Zoning Decisions.")

We have heard much in the news recently on the dangers of radiation from hand-held cell phones, and in addition, more and more people world-wide are becoming aware of the severe health dangers these base stations pose to a community. The CTIA is simply attempting to gain unhindered power to erect base quickly and efficiently stations wherever they like before people (and governments) who are becoming aware of the dangers start to take action, since once the antennas are up it becomes that much more difficult legally to take them down.

Paul Doyon of EMF Refugee says:
"The CTIA made a similar attempt in the fall of 1997 to completely remove all zoning authority over cell-phone base station sites in the USA. (See "National Zoning Nanny": click here for the history.) However, a letter writing campaign from US citizens was fortunately able to block this and the FCC did not grant the CTIA their wish."

Janet Newton adds:
"The same effort is needed now. Submit your comment at: http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/ecfs/upload_v2.cgi by September 29, 2008. In - Box 1. Proceeding - type 08-165. Fill out the rest of the form as it applies to you as an individual. You can attach your Comment as a PDF document, or you can type your comment directly into the box at the bottom of that page.
"In addition, as Miller and Van Eaton advises, urge your local municipal officers to participate in the joint filing that MVE is preparing."

Paul Doyon says:
"It appears that CTIA senses a void in local government concerns and hopes it can get the FCC to act before local governments can mount an effective defense. We recommend immediate action to oppose CTIA's petition. Local government needs a cogent and comprehensive response to the FCC. Please contact MVE if your community will participate in a coalition effort to fight this CTIA attack on local zoning.
"Urge your local municipal officers to contact:
Jim Hobson jhobson@millervaneaton.com or Rick Ellrod
fellrod@millervaneaton.com or by phone at: 202-785-0600."

He has written in to the FCC, commenting:
"I was made extremely sick from living within 300 meters of two cell-phone base stations. I developed a host of bizarre symptoms including insomnia, fatigue, inability to concentrate or remember things, a weakened immune system, swollen lymph nodes, chronic diarrhea, nausea, anxiety attacks, loss of appetite and rapid weight loss. It took me six months before I was even able to imagine the cause. When I removed myself from this place and found a log house up in the mountains with no TV or cell phone coverage, 50% of my symptoms disappeared within 24 hours. It took another 2 months before I was able to get off sleeping pills and another 4 months for my body to be about 80% better. I had what is conventionally called "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" (CFS) in the US or "Myalgic Encephalomyelitis" (ME) in the UK. However, the symptoms are more appropriately in line to what is has been called "Microwave Sickness." The research I looked at with regards to how microwave and other forms of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) affect human and animal physiology and biology can perfectly explain all of the symptoms and abnormalities found in CFS/ME. Furthermore, there are numerous research studies that show that people living around these cell phone base stations start to exhibit these symptoms and then that after a few years cancer clusters start to form. What the CTIA - The Wireless Association is doing and has been doing is absolutely criminal. These people should be charged with first-degree murder!!! They should absolutely not be given more power! In fact, the power that was allotted them by the FCC Telecommunications Act of 1996 should be completely rescinded. As more and more people become aware of the dangers posed by this technology, the FCC will also be held accountable--unless they start to act now in the people's interest. The longer you wait, the more wrath you will incur. It is now time to get on the other side of the fence and do something about this extremely serious problem!!!"

The unbridled proliferation of Wireless Communications Towers and unregulated Wireless Hotspots for Wi-fi -- as well as the failure to provide any post-market surveillance for the safety of cell phones, wireless phones, baby monitors, etc. is a public health time bomb.
While the wireless industry has gotten essentially a free ride because other ill people have not made the correlation with their symptoms and the cause of such, I hope the FCC won't be so short sighted as to ignore the fact that people are becoming violently ill due to exposures to such non-ionizing radiation.

The LONG TERM consequences are also something that has not been sincerely considered -- and it astonishes me that with the growing body of Worldwide evidence pointing to significant Biological and Health effects from these unnatural Digital, Pulsed fields, that the FCC would do anything other than pressing for 1) a Total RECALL of these technologies and 2) Enforcing a MORATORIUM on any further development until the health problems can be
sorted out.

Please consider the fact that millions of Americans already are suffering as a result of these field exposures and any more towers that go up will serve to simply drown more of us.

Good God, this is an enormous and outrageous crime against humanity.
Wake UP FCC.

What's happening is a complete and utter denial of many peoples' right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
For many, the symptoms are truly devastating.
PLEASE DO NOT EXPAND THIS PROBLEM ANY FURTHER.
IT IS HORIFFIC ENOUGH AS IT IS.
Where are the Personal Injury Lawyers?"
-------------------------------------

Why should you care? You might not be among the affected yet, but the number of people who have become sensitized to radiofrequency radiation continues to grow, and is expected by some to reach 50% of the population in the future if trends continue as they are. Recognizing the importance of our right to determine where such dangerous facilities are located is critical. Action is needed now. The few refuges away from radiofrequency electropollution that still exist need to be maintained.
