On February 1, 2006 Bush proclaimed that we are “addicted to oil.” Before March 2006 oil prices began to rapidly rise. Coincidence? You be the judge.
To better facilitate this “bumper sticker” the corporate media propagandists continue to tell us how addicted we are and we need to curb this addiction in order to conserve.
First, we are not addicted. We simply have no other choices. Bush was addicted to alcohol. He had alternative choices such as water, coffee, soft drinks, iced tea, lemonade, and much more, but he chose alcohol. Cindy McCain was addicted to drugs. She could have chosen from a host of other activities, like exercise, therapy, or any number of other things, but she chose drugs.
We have no other choices or could I use water or some other substance? Not likely. I do what I can in that I drive a hybrid, using battery to offset gasoline and do, in fact, get over 33% better per mile than with a similar gasoline only vehicle. I would gladly not use gasoline if our elected officials would only mandate alternatives be made available. Instead, they simply want to feed into our “addiction” by freeing up more land for more oil drilling!
So, unless you give me an alternative to oil don't call me an addict to the stuff.
