Canada's newly branded government promised real change, but instead, we're getting more of the same.

In foreign and domestic matters, core structural issues continue to be ignored, and the government's progressive veneer is fading quickly.

Since the unnamed sicknesses of imperial hegemony and ultra-neoliberalism are as yet undiagnosed, their respective cures will remain unattainable.

The holocaust [i] in the Middle East, for example, will not be cured until the root causes are identified and treated.

The recent findings (June 23, 2015) from an independent commission of inquiry established by the Human Rights Council (HRC) of the United Nations (UN) identified some of these causes, and made recommendations. In Section 7, Part B of the report. For example, Israel was called upon to

"lift, immediately and unconditionally, the blockade on Gaza; to cease all settlement-related activity, including the transfer of Israel's own population to the occupied territory; and to implement the advisory opinion rendered on 9 July 2004 by the International Court of Justice on the legal consequences of the construction of a wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory "

These structural issues are being largely ignored by Israel, its allies, and the complicit MSM, even as the new Canadian government positions itself as "progressive".

Root causes of the War on Syria, and the influx of refugees into Europe, are also being suppressed.

A Wikileaks cable demonstrates that as early as 2006, Western powers were planning the destabilization of Syria [ii] and a declassified U.S Department of Defence (DOD) document [iii] makes it clear not only that "the Salafist, the Muslim Brotherhood, and AQI [iv] are the major forces driving the insurgency in Syria", but also that "the West, Gulf countries and Turkey support the opposition"

Clearly then, the West is supporting the terrorists that are illegally invading the sovereign state of Syria.

This key fact should be acknowledged and the invasion should cease and desist. But this root cause of the war is not being diagnosed, and so it is not being cured.

The Western-supported invasion of Syria is also the root cause of the influx of refugees into Europe. But this causal factor is also being ignored. Again, if the root causes were identified and addressed, the tragedies would be reversed rather than perpetrated.

The imperial devastation that is being perpetrated beneath the subterfuge of lies and deceit is also linked to another as yet unaddressed sickness metastasizing globally--neoliberalism. Countries destroyed by the West, including Iraq, Libya, Ukraine, and Syria [v] are invariably looted, their pubic infrastructures are dismantled, and they become vassals to self-serving and parasitical transnational corporate monopolies.

Corporate sovereignty agreements such as the Canada-China Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPPA), and the upcoming Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement are icons of a these destructive impulses that enrich the oligarch classes as they impoverish and disempower the vast majority. Jobs are offshored, highly protected transnational corporate monopolies get their wish lists of deregulation, and core public services are dismantled and privatized.

Corporate profits are protected by supranational agreements, even as social infrastructures are undermined and destroyed.
