Police believe that alcohol was a "factor" in the incident.

The sketchy twists and turns of the "Palin Brawl" are now a matter of
public record via the media. The real mysteries may be, however, just what is
happening to the Palins now and if anybody really cares.
To recap:
Anchorage Police Department communications director Jennifer Castro confirmed to The Huffington Post that police responded to a "verbal and physical altercation" outside a residence just before midnight on Saturday, and that "some of the Palin family members were in attendance at the party." According to one witness, Eric Thompson, the
Palin family arrived at the home of Korey Klingemeyer who was throwing a
combination birthday party for Thompson's bosses, snow machine racers in the
Alaskan Iron Dog race. They arrived in a stretch Hummer which deposited Palin
daughters Bristol and Willow, son Track, Sarah and Todd (who was celebrating
his 50th birthday, but the party was not in his honor). Upon spying Bristol in
sunglasses, Thompson remarked to his wife "Does she think she's Marilyn
Monroe?" .
Things went smoothly for a while, with Sarah
dancing in her platform high-tops decorated with an American flag. Then Track
spied an ex-boyfriend of Willow's and a fight ensued.
When Korey tried to break up the fight, Bristol
Palin punched him "five or six times" (bloggers noted it as a
"great right hook"). It was then that he asked the Palin's to leave.
People heard Sarah Palin shout, "Do you know who we are?" The police
were called. No charges were filed, but Track was seen shirtless, giving the
finger to passersby before getting into the Hummer.
