The Department of Defense just made a big change to ensure that women in the military have access to emergency contraception -- finally! Let's make sure anti-choice activists don't fight back. Show Defense Secretary Robert Gates we stand behind this new policy. |
I have huge news:
After years of struggling to make sure women serving in the military overseas can obtain emergency contraception (EC) when they need it, the Department of Defense has just approved a policy that would guarantee access!
Anti-choice forces -- from Bush's political appointees to Rep. Bart Stupak from Michigan to extremist groups like Focus on the Family -- have opposed efforts like this before.
Now we have an administration that's doing the right thing.
Help make sure anti-choice ideologues don't oppose access to emergency contraception again. Send Secretary of Defense Robert Gates a quick note supporting the policy and urging him to stand behind it, no matter what anti-choice forces do.
This policy shift from the Defense Department is a major victory for women's health and women's rights.
Until now, if a woman serving in the military stationed overseas is sexually assaulted, there's a good chance she won't be able to get emergency birth control that can prevent pregnancy, simply because the base's medical facilities don't carry it.
Even worse? Anti-choice politicians have fought for years to keep it that way.
Please thank Secretary Gates for his department's move to guarantee access.
Showing your support only takes a minute -- but it could lead to decades of improved health care for women serving in our nation's military.
NARAL Pro-Choice America has been fighting to change this unacceptable policy for years. Yet every time we've gotten close, anti-choice forces have managed to block it, endangering women's health.
Show Secretary Gates that the public overwhelmingly supports this policy change.
Together, we can see this through to a victory for women's health. Thank you for taking action today.
My best,
Nancy Keenan
