With all the confusion about health care and lets be frank some outright lies, it's getting harder and harder to get at the truth.

The problem with getting at the truth is most people don't pay a whole lot of attention to policy and when they do the loudest and the most sensationalized voices usually get heard.

Change is scary and unfortunately when people get scared they tend to believe the things that can justify their fear, it's human nature.

Opponents of health care reform and their allies know this and they have been using this fear to further their agenda for years now.

Although I do think the opposition made a mistake this time!

By delaying the passage of a health care bill until this fall even though it gave them time to gin up the fear level with mostly misleading facts, it also gives the Democrats time to let the initial fear and confusion subside which in turn may let level headed conversation take the lead.

This is where the President is key, his job after the recess is to lay out a reasonable plan and explain it in a way to ease peoples fears.

Of course there will be some that don't want to hear what he has to say but if he gets enough middle of the road people to jump aboard his plan then we will have health care reform!

It's been the same throughout our history, before and even during the Revolution there were people happy to live under British rule. Some of them because they were living high on the hog and profiting handsomely under rule of the King while others were afraid they would lose all or part of what they have worked so hard for.

Grant it! Rebelling against the most powerful Nation in the world at that time must have scared everyone even our Forefathers but they new change was needed.

I realize health care reform isn't even near the magnitude of our Country's battle for independence but if you look close I think you can see some similarities. We are all in this American experiment together for good or bad, rich or poor, for success or failure and to be honest nothing is ever certain but we can't let that hold us back.

I can just imagine the comments coming already saying Yes! We revolted to get rid of an oppressive King and today we have an oppressive government!

I believe that to be totally untrue! Just by the simple fact that we are free to say things as such without any fear of being imprisoned and/or executed by the hands of our government.

In my opinion I think our Forefathers were not anti-government they were anti-totalitarianism. They believed in a fair and just government run by the people, that is why they set up the three branches we have today.

We are a Country born of change, a Country sustained by change and without change (no matter how scary it may be) we will cease to grow as a people and quite possibly cease to exist.
