Anyone doubting the truth that Dominionist Christianity and the Republican Party have now blended into an horrific mix of murder, destruction, Corporatism and a unique brand of U. S. Fascism topped off with a madness that defies categorizing need only read some of the sworn testimony being produced in a civil lawsuit against Blackwater, the private army of thugs and Brown Shirts 2.0 who kill as casually as a frenzied mob of Manson harpies. However, Manson in this instance is Erik Prince -- a man who apparently sees himself as a mix of Jesus Christ infected with rabies, a demented Richard The First of England , and Jack The Ripper raised to the 33rd power.
The story of this maniac and his sick family has been fully vetted by author and The Nation Magazine contributor Jeremy Scahill. His book, Blackwater: The Rise of the World s Most Powerful Mercenary Army is a must read for anyone who wants to understand the coming era of American Fascism and its attendant horror.
Scahill yesterday posted at The Nation online the latest episode in the life of a company and its founder that reads like a Crusader s wet dream. Titled Blackwater Founder Implicated in Murder, the article reveals testimony of two sworn witnesses -- one a former Blackwater manager; the other a former Marine who worked for the company -- that leave no doubt whatsoever that Erik Prince is a mad man.
However, Prince -- while significant in the Dominionist Movement -- is simply a small cog in the wheel of U.S. Fascism, a wheel that seems to be unstoppable as it slowly and inexorably turns this country into an asylum managed by right wing Republican sociopaths, Christian killers and corporate thugs who, in a different time, a different place (France mid-1790s) would be summarily executed for their attempts to destroy this Republic.
But, here, now, they will not be destroyed. They flourish. The tumbrels will not come creaking into the square with Limbaugh, Beck, Dobbs, Hannity, et al, trussed and hooded, the guillotine waiting, the crowd shrieking and dancing. Rather, the celebration will be delayed considerably -- until after the struggle; until after the rule of law is re-established in our tired, sad country.
The comparisons available between 1930 s Germany and early 21st Century America are many and overused. Still, they glaringly exist. Those of us outside The Matrix understand not only those comparisons, but also the risk in not responding with fury and determination to the current attempts to end the Framers' experiment in democratic self government. The most pronounced difference between the two eras, however, is the level of toxic stupidity that permeates every level of social interaction in the U.S. as compared to the cultural and intellectual brilliance of the Germans. And, we know that even with the underpinnings of mid-20th Century German genius in science, music, medicine, art, and literature it was relatively easy for the advent and rise of Adolph Hitler and the open-eyed willingness of the German people to follow him into Hell, taking millions upon millions of innocent people with them.
The French philosopher Denis Diderot, who is credited with pointing out that "Man will never be free until the last King is strangled with the entrails of the last Priest, must have had in mind the current state of madness that is the United States, 2009.
