Clipper Ship Building Program = Four Million Decent Jobs

I am an independent candidate for president of United States. In 1988 I went to New Hampshire, plunked down a thousand dollars to be on the ballot, running in the primary as a republican. I applied to NHPTV, the PBS station in New Hampshire and WGBH, in Boston, Massachusetts. WGBH's refusal of my request for access was ugly and unconstitutional. The FCC Bureau Chief, planted in the agency by J. Edgar Hoover, to chip away at our First Amendment rights, cast a deaf ear on my complaint.

But the New Hampshire station could not refuse my request. In the history of our political broadcasting I am the only "independent" candidate for president ever to have secured air time for a political speech on a PBS station, without an association with either of the two political parties.

The speech is online at vodpod/michaelslevinson.

My clipper ship building plan is only one of my jobs programs which I talked about in that 1988 PBS speech. This was noted in Time Magazine years later, in 1995, when I was on the ballot again for the presidential primary in New Hampshire.

I did not get elected president of USA yet, but I believe this time is my time. I bring to the table a Vehicle for World Peace. The words have a ring worth looking into. Regardless, the politicians smell the unrest of the people and they are open to a sensible jobs program. Obama can see enacted my clipper ship building program, and pat himself on the back for recognizing how much sense a clipper ship building program makes for our nation's economic health.

But good as this clipper ship building program is, lobbyist forces could easily be opposed to the millions of jobs created because companies they represent operate fleets of American owned Liberian flagged merchant ships that carry package cargoes the Liberian barons feel are theirs to freight.

Our goal : build a thousand fleets of strong clipper ships, 10,000 ships, with software controlled fully automatic sails, to carry our exports all over the world. Everything in our stores, made in America, we export. We export Kool-aid, Ivory soap, tooth paste. All the plentiful goods we take for granted every day in USA: cooking oil, grains, computers, and software, whatever you see for sale on our shelves, we export and sell world wide.

When I was 10 years old, the most famous Russian inventor known to man was a USSR fellow named Reguspatoff. Reg. US Pat. Off. His name was stamped on everything. America leads the world.

Building 10,000 clipper ships, wherever there is water, and people need work, will create, within a few years, 4 million good unskilled, and semi-skilled jobs, leading to even better, fully skilled jobs! Not all of our citizens dream of operating computers, writing software, or going online. For lots of people, a decent paying job, where they learn on the job, and can upgrade to semi and fully skilled labor, as carpenters, plumbers, and electricians, using their hands, is for them, a great trade and a dream come true, something they can take with them wherever they go.

College students, will pay reduced tuition, and get their under grad edu, while sailing the ships as coed crew. So the ships won't cost to operate, even sailing light, their cargo holds, empty. Undergraduate 101 courses are infamous for giant impersonal lecture halls, with grad students teaching, so course work, programmed in Flash, digitized, on workstation computers, with wireless at sea access to internet, and their school libraries online, or aboard ship on dvd, will do just fine. The students will see the world, and get a genuine lived-on sense of the planet, our good ship mother earth.

The ships will pay for their building, carrying cargo! Some of this shipyard money could come from University Endowments, by presidential prod or Executive Order. Funds might also materialize on Wall Street, with or without federal government backing. The beauty of this job creating program is the jobs are genuine, long term, and government is not required to make it happen.

How did the Dutch build their fleets a couple three hundred years ago? Certainly not with bureaucracies! This is a giant jobs deal that will put America back to work!! This clipper ship building program, creating ship yards up and down the Great Lakes, the East Coast, West Coast, and Gulf Coast, and along the Mississippi, where ever there is water and people need work, needs to happen for the strength and rejuvenation of our economy.

The 10,000 clipper ship advantage, in a WTO free trading world is clear. We can say to all of our trading partners, world wide, "We welcome all your exports to United States. Our only request is that your exported goods come to America on our ships, at negotiated f.o.b charges both countries can live with."

In the event the world grain markets are depressed, with our export grains going on our clipper ships, we can adjust the shipping charges to protect our farmers. Certainly WalMart and K-Mart can inform their Chinese suppliers, that their next boatload of shoes and pants are to be loaded on our clipper ships, waiting in their harbor.

When I'm president, by Executive Order, all the sad cases languishing in jail because of drug violations, related to marijuana, will be pardoned. Regardless of pardoning people jailed for smoking pot, this clipper ship program needs to be in place so there are potential jobs waiting for these people, too, whether they are pardoned or released after completing their sentences!

Once upon a time we were a great seafaring nation. We should be again. Our clipper fleet could include a dozen non-nuclear submarines, for ocean research, mostly on duty in the shipping corridors where speed boat pirates ply the waters.

The ship's undergraduate crews might include a few youngsters integrated who are uneducated; kids raised in the roughest neighborhoods, who may have already done time behind bars, and may even be paroled to the ship, to learn how to read and write and have a chance at a better life.
