During her 2005 run for Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin attended a service at the Wasilla Assembly of God church in which a Pentecostal guest pastor from Africa anointed Palin as the preferred candidate of Jesus Christ in the gubernatorial election.
Palin should not be faulted for attending this service, but I don't think it right for the pastor to imply God or Jesus favors candidates in political elections. "We declare favor" - "favor, favor, favor" her, pastor Thomas Muthee crackled. I thought even Palin's incumbent opponents were God's children - shouldn't we discuss the issues instead of praying for divine intervention?
Figuratively "laying hands" on Palin, the pastor continued: "Make a way for Sarah, even in the political arena. Make a way, my God. Bring finances her way even for the campaign in the name of Jesus - and above all, give her personnel, give her men and women that will back her up in the name of Jesus."
Muthee also implored Jesus to protect Palin from "the spirit of witchcraft", while another parishioner grabbed the microphone and added "We stomp on the heads of the enemy!"
