Yep, it’s tough, isn’t it? To close Gitmo, I mean. To invade other countries, to buy prisoners from the goons there, to abuse them, torture them, incarcerate them for 8 years to drive them to mental disorders- that was easy. Evil was easy. Now Obama wants to do some good. No way! Republicans in Congress already want a Bill (a law to pass, mind you) to ban those people from being on the US soil in any capacity. Why? Because they are dangerous people. Who defined that? Any open court of real law with attorneys and all the witnesses? What are the names of those 245 dangerous individuals? Hello? Names, please. Families, please. Dates and places of birth, please. Occupations, please. How come they are more dangerous than Charlie Manson? He is still in the US, right? And since when do we use Congress, our lawmaking machine to develop special laws the only purpose of which is to bar a very small group of people from being (!) on our soil. Ahoy, what are you afraid of, people?
I will tell you what these folks are afraid of. They don’t give a damn about the US security. All of them- from squeaky senators to Bill’O are afraid for themselves. They are afraid that if the mechanism of law, real law starts to work they all might suddenly become at least material witnesses, subjects to questioning. And if that happens, if those shadows suddenly start to talk and we see those faces and hear those real stories- then the real monsters who were in charge of evil all along will start to get rid of the liabilities. The evil political mafia which developed all that horror is still intact and they know it. Oh, how they squeak. You can see the fear in their eyes. They are like those members of the Stalin’s Politburo in 1956 who when hearing about Khrushev’s intentions to denounce the Stalin’s atrocities shouted, ‘What will happen to us then!’ But it went through OK then: Khrushev did tell about the horrors and he initiated a new mechanism of at least some law and infamous GULAG was closed and millions were freed (yes, that was not enough, granted but a huge step forward) and those millions of people resettled through the whole big country, those who were CONVICTED as terrorists, spies, saboteurs, political enemies. And lo and behold- there was NOT EVEN ONE act off terror or any other law breakage conducted by those millions of the freed people- they all lived honest lives not very long lives in most cases, unfortunately). Hey, for some reason the gloomy, bloody Russians could do it, the good I mean and survive. We here squeak about those 245 people already. Oh, yes, some say in Afghanistan, in the Bagram prison we have incarcerated even more, much more. And those CIA prisons? Who are those people whom we tortured? What are their names? Those eyes, those thousands of eyes- we are afraid to look them straight into the eye? But those Russians, they did it! Are we worse than them?
To those who listen to those unfortunate noises here’s my put: the Gitmo prison and other such places must be closed for good for YOUR OWN SAKE. They must be closed because if not YOU WILL BE THERE. They must be closed because the law was broken. They must be closed, the people incarcerated must be investigated case- by-case in open courts if necessary with witnesses and attorneys and subpoenas and their cases must be dismissed if the law says so. And then we will see- maybe even we will have to grant them a refugee status. Names, families, openness absolutely. This country, we, the people do not wage war on individuals. Terrorist organizations are the tools of the power mongers. We can find them. We can bring them into the open. Yes, we can and those innocent victims of tortures and abuse- they can become our most valuable assets. They can help us to find the real goons. That’s what they, the evil ones are afraid of now. They want us to sacrifice our children for nothing. They want us to become criminals, to sanction lawless acts, so that we fear forever. But we have nothing to fear but the fear itself. Yes, goodness is tough to do and we seem not to be used to doing it. Get used to it. Learn. You can do it. It is for your own good.
