This is a notice I saw about another industrial park here in Venezuela. It talks about the influence that China is having on Venezuela and on future investments in the country.

Chinese Funding Moves Projects Forward Under Worker Management

Thanks to our workers, the new Procurement Department has opened 16 purchase orders to finish several important new and maintenance projects among others. Sidor workers have been meeting continually for nearly a year as per our original promise in order to consolidate the many important investment, maintenance, technological and productive development projects in accordance with the wishes of all the workers.

According to the Procurement Department, to date there have been 16 purchase orders for projects of which most are in process.

Among the most important ones we find: the construction of locker rooms, bathrooms, lunchrooms, rest areas, packaging equipment for the hot rolled laminate steel, reparation of the green iron pellets system for Planta de Pellas, and the replacement of the industrial water system piping, fire prevention system, and the principal and secondary piping network for the plants Decapados I and II.

Because of the critical state in which Decapados I and II find themselves in, due to the lack of proper maintenance, these are the areas of greatest project development. Similarly, the Midrex plants are also of priority since they involve strategic areas under the new plans of construction and commercialization in the metallurgical industry.

You (workers of Sidor) too can participate in the control and updating of these projects by attending the Chinese Funding meetings every Wednesday at 9:00 am in room A at RRHH.

Remember, your opinion is important since, with your input, we will be able to optimize work conditions, safety, ergonomics, space and access infrastructure among other projects that will grow the company and guarantee the kind of safety conditions that the working class needs.

The consolidation of the change process we want at Sidor depends on you.

While the gist has little direct input on how important the Chinese investment is and how much it will affect Sidor on a whole, it is clear by the title that the implication is that China will be bankrolling many of the new projects being implemented.

The Americans I work with at Faja have been saying for some time that the Chinese can bankroll most projects in Venezuela, fill a lot of the strategic positions with unemployed Chinese, and not even feel it. They already have 2 trillion dollars of American tax money to spend as they wish. While US nation building consists of spending hundreds of billions on the Military Industrial Complex, creating illegal wars, killing millions and displacing millions more, the Chinese nation building only has to worry about spending American tax dollars where they can get the biggest bang for their buck.

It has been said many times over that this is the century of the emergence of China. I think this article is but one more example of that.
