In our quite dangerous times I'm reminded of the words of Edmund Burke: "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

But with the election presidential debates just having occurred, this author feels intensely the need to speak out.

Such a reputable source as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., held forth: "Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy."

Although I've to date demurred, dismayed, watching the general American political fracas, wondering how it will all turn out, longing for the campaign of four years past, when with "the audacity of hope," meaningful change was daringly promised -- now I'll be silent no more.

These fecund "promises of democracy" now recede into the background, as a campaign of empty words seeks voters by attack and counter attack.

Just last evening I watched an MSNBC interview of Nancy Pelosi by Rachel Maddow on MSNBC.

Representative Pelosi related her consternation at counties and municipalities in effect blocking voters by requiring massive and repeated paperwork to prove citizenship.   Although already proven and registered, a new form was required, but once completed it was returned again to the voter asking for additional proof in an insanely endless game of registration by mail.

In Florida Governor Rick Scott's ignited ignominious controversy by acting to suppress the votes of a naturalized Hispanic citizen, Mr. Arroliga. Truly a citizen, he like many others are being discouraged from voting.

Simply put, if the nasty political ads by unidentified mega-million special interest groups don't get you, the newly defined grinding bureaucracy of balloting now will!
