Extreme Stupidity

I have come to expect any outlandish, stupid and zany behavior during this charged political campaign season. As the anger and hostility rises to stratospheric levels led by all kinds of political and assorted crazies, the climate has become the marketplace for the bizarre and stupid. Recently, United States Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas' wife, Virginia, was moved for reasons yet undisclosed to telephone Professor Anita Hill to demand that she apologize for the pain she caused her husband.

Problem is Ms. Virginia Thomas, who is white, left a telephone message on Professor Hill's phone about apologizing for her damning testimony during the US Senate conformation hearings for Justice Thomas. That was 19 years ago and Professor Hill has long moved on with her life. The fact that Ms. Thomas is bringing this up after reams have been written on this controversial hearing and Professor Hill's charges of sexual harassment is odd to say the least. Ms. Thomas now tries to paint her husband as a victim and Professor Hill a dangerous, unbalanced spurned woman.

It is either that this woman, Ms. Thomas, has suddenly been smitten by some self-righteous epiphany or that she is not playing with a full deck of cards. I believe that the second choice is nearer to the truth. Ms. Thomas has now become the willing enabler of a man accused of deviant sexual harassment. She is also the founder of a silly organization called Liberty Central and a rabid supporter of the Tea Party Movement.

I tried exceedingly hard from refraining to less flattering words to describe Ms. Thomas but try and I may the words "nutcase" and "delusional" just keep popping up. Ms. Thomas said that she formed Liberty Central to "Oppose the Obama tyranny." And if you think that "unhinged" is too harsh a word to describe Virginia Thomas' most bizarre actions, consider the following: she called Professor Hill's residence at Brandeis University at 7:30 a.m. to leave this very inane passive-aggressive message.

But what can we expect? Ms. Thomas' website (LibertyCentral.org) is an amalgamation of disorganized issues and topics and a gloatingly all-white board of directors even as the site speaks about being representative of "all citizens." Of course, there is enough space for the paranoids in our midst to vent their feelings and wax eloquently on issues like the Fourteenth Amendment and how it was never ratified.

Ms. Thomas and the Tea Party movement would kick out of America children born here to undocumented immigrants something that I sin lock step with ultra-right Republican candidates like Delaware's Christine O'Donnell and Nevada's Sharron Angle. This narrow and subjective reading of the US Constitution is also a feature and commonality of supporters of the Tea Party movement and its top leaders like Virginia Thomas.

Liberty Central is an excellent example of loud, jackass, and ignorant conservative hyperbole: "America now faces a greater threat than at any other point in our history." What about the Civil War? Or WWII ? Communism? Swine Flu? Anything? But no, turns out the greatest threat EVER is big government liberalism and President Barack Obama. Of course, they are pretty vague about what these threats actually are and what they will do.

Recently, I heard another raving blowhard, Rush Limbaugh, say that looking at President Barack Obama he saw an evil countenance. Limbaugh said that Obama's face was like no other American president and that his eyes were mean and wicked and he looked dangerous. This lunatic with a large following that believe this unadulterated bilge is suddenly an expert on faces; interestingly he fails to look at his own less than comely countenance in the mirror.

This absolute madness on the right from within the bowels of the Republican Party is further explained on Liberty Central's website. I nearly wrote "Comedy Central" given the ludicrous and zany claims that Ms. Thomas and her people make. For example, under the Hot Issues section of the site entitled "Hot Issue: What Your Kids are Learning" is a long rambling, spurious history of education in America. The missive laments how our education system teaches children to love big government and disdain enterprise and individualism. The evidence? They claim that government took control of education in the 1800s by doing such terrible things as making some education mandatory and using tax money to fund public schools.

Such blatant lying and twisting and manipulating the truth is now commonplace in the political discourse. Tea Party loonies like Sarah Palin and others routinely lie, distort and embellish the truth to fit the occasion and to vilify and lamblast President Obama for any and all trumped up nonsense. Truth does not matter, only the Republican and Tea Party's version of it. Ms. Thomas has found the company of liars and lunatics invigorating and refreshing. She now marches with them in lock step.

In a clumsy attempt to hang the tie of socialism around President Obama's neck the Liberty Central's narrative continued: "In modern times, curricula are destroying youth by emphasizing "socialization over individualism, often training children to embrace a multicultural, diverse world while negatively portraying traditional American values and philosophical principles grounded in Western Heritage." Apparently, learning to be a social individual and reading Angela Mayou is what makes our test scores low and our civic knowledge so weak.

Now we are getting inside the mind of Ginni Thomas and her motivation and possible rationale for calling Professor Anita Hill and demanding that she apologize for causing her husband serious embarrassment and accusing him of sexually harassing her 19 years ago That the wife of a sitting United States Supreme Court justice's behavior and cozying up to the Tea Party Movement is tasteless and tacky goes without saying. She comes over as a berserk barroom brawler so jacked up on hate and hostility that she's having a powerful delayed orgasm.

She is indicative and representative of a small but vocal group of white Americans who still feel uncomfortable with a Black man in the white house, no meter that her husband is Black. The kinds of hateful rhetoric, open disrespect and arrogant dismissiveness that are hurled at President Obama each an everyday mostly by white neo-conservative media people would never have been the case if his skin was white. And the anger within the Tea Party movement and its barely concealed racism, mostly leveled at President Obama, is spun to the gulliblw, as Ginni Thomas says, to save America from the tyranny of Barack Obama.

I told you these people were crazy because Ms. Thomas and he Tea Baggers are so delusional and blinded by racial hatred that they are now seeing Barack Obama as George Bush. So, like its father the Republican Party, the Tea Party, and its supporters like Ms. Thomas, are playing the zero sum game. They have synchronized their line of march and position that maintains a simple "no" to anything that the Obama Administration does even though it many be good for America. So every federal policy must be rejected, ridiculed and maligned. Denying the validity of any professional ideas or positions like global warning is the new strategy to make the Democrats look bad and President Obama only attractive as a one-term president.

Back in 2007, when Justice Thomas published his autobiography, My Grandfather's Son , he assailed Hill's honesty, cited her mediocrity as an employee, and told 60 Minutes "She was not the demure, religious, conservative person that they portrayed." Ginni Thomas demanded an apology then as well . At the time, Hill was so stunned at the Thomas's need to rip open the old wound that she published a response in the New York Times and told the Boston Globe "I am surprised he has held on to the anger for that long. " I'm surprised at the level of intensity 16 years later."

Today, in 2010 Virginia Thomas's rage and anger still burns red hot as hell. As one of the ultra-right wing darlings of the Tea Party Movement, she believes the political world consists of the vicious liars in the mainstream media, the anti-democratic elitists in Washington, and a tiny sliver of goodness that is the Tea Party, her friends, and her husband. But the delusional never think and had Mr. Thomas bothered to look beyond the "Long Don Silver and pubic hairs on my coke" memorable moments and review the case in an objective way she would have known that Professor Anita Hill took a polygraph test at the time of the hearings while Clarence Thomas did not.
