This morning, I emailed the President of the United States, Barack Obama the letter below and I am strongly urging all of my readers who are truly angry at the Republicans mentioned below to write a similar letter.  Senators like Specter, Snowe and Collins must vote on the side of the people like Ms. Hughes.  As she spoke out for we the people, let us reciprocate in kind by being her voice as we email the president.

As the main stream media gives them the bully pulpit to Specter, Snowe and Collins, let us remind them through a supportive letter to the president, we stand on Ms. Hughes side and not theirs.   Let us remind them, they are derelict in their duty to all of us!

Dear President Barack Obama,                                                                     February 11, 2009

When roughly 54 percent of Americans went to the polls this past Election Day, they were voting for change and that change was a rebuke of how Republicans governed we the people.  When I see how this recovery bill must meet with the approval of Senators Arlen Specter, Senator Olympia Snowe and Senator Susan Collins in order to pass the senate after it comes out of conference, it truly sickens me.

As I looked upon that woman (Henrietta Hughes) with tears streaming down her face in Fort Meyers, Florida, pleading with you for help as she is now forced to live in a car, these are the people that these Republicans are NOT thinking of.

She displayed far more courage to tell the world her plight and for those three senators to cling to some ideological belief, shows their cowardice to meet these dangerous times.

This is exactly the time that we the people must come together for the good of all the people and what those senators are doing are holding we the people hostage.

I would love for the House to up the aid to the states as I read where Gov. Schwarzenegger is now threatening to lay off 10,000 workers.  Their needs and the needs of that sole woman must come first.

Mr. President, I stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you as I turn my back on these Republican senators who failed to rise to this occasion.  What they are forgetting is that they were elected to serve we the people and so far as they cling to their ideological beliefs, they have failed we the people.

Sincerely,

Mary MacElveen
