Former CNN and FOX host Glenn Beck has called for commemorating the Muslim holy month of Ramadan by shooting everyone at Guantanamo Bay in the head, also joking about torturing others through force feeding. On his July 9th radio program, the 49-year-old Mormon Romney supporter was discussing hunger strikes and forced feeding of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. 39-year-old, Brooklyn-born actor and rapper Dante Terrell Smith, a Muslim performer known under the stage names "Mos Def" and "Yasiin Bey," experienced being force fed in a four-minute film released by a human-rights organization, and Beck was discussing the matter.
Beck, an ardent supporter of Israel, in the past was touted as a possible running mate to Sarah Palin. He has likened Ron Paul supporters to terrorists and said that he "hates 9/11 victims' families for asking questions".
Beck makes the following comments during the most recent broadcast. (excerpts). The audio can be heard here.
5:22 Think about that. Okay seriously. Okay you can shoot em in the head. Or you can set them free. neither one of those things is going to happen at Gitmo. Neither one. So the only alternative to forcefeeding these guys is to let them starve to death... a horrible heinous painful awful death?Let's save some money... here's the thing...
6:43 We can't let them starve themselves to death? Damn right we can. We can also shoot them in the head, which is the other option and the one I'm for. SHOOT THEM. But, the other is let them starve to death and I'm totally fine with that. I don't want to starve anybody myself; but I don't want to do that. I want to be the country that we all love and appreciate. You know the one that is feared by its enemies, but should not be a country that is feared by all. But is feared by its enemies.
Beck continues to rant about those held in Guantanamo, claiming they are "Guys who were on the battlefield shooting us. Guys who admittedly despise the United States of America and would like to kill us all. Really? We're gonna turn around because they starve themselves to death? It's an awful horrible horrible thing. It is not a humane way to uh kill someone. But we're not killing them. They are. They want to go see their sweet sweet Allah, I'm happy to introduce the two." (8:50)
Beck later revisits the topic and ends the segment saying that those involved in the IRS scandal are "absolutely completely incompetent and need to be replaced," adding "And the Gitmo prisoners should be shot in the head."
At minute 18 Beck continues to joke about torture and force-feeding people food that is not liquified: "you get a little bone in your nose now, sorry," he jokes. He then complains about "a good friend of mine who moved to the middle east" and keeps sending him happy ramadan cards: "May we during the holy month of Ramadan share a higher common purpose," Beck reads from the card, to which he replies "Yeah. We can. We can shoot the guys at Gitmo. Seems like a pretty high purpose to me."
Wikipedia reports "Ramazan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar; Muslims worldwide observe this as a month of fasting... Ramadan is considered to be the most sacred month of the Islamic calendar..." Google notes "Ramadan 2013 began in the evening of Monday, July 8, and ends in the evening of Wednesday, August 7."
The fact that Glenn Beck calls for the murder of innocent people to celebrate the month of Muslim religious observances reveals a particularly dark heart and a shockingly deranged mindset.
In reality there is no proof that those held at Guantanamo are guilty, as evidenced by the following or through an internet search:
- Former State Department Official: Team Bush Knew Many at Gitmo Were Innocent April 2013
- '90% of Guantanamo prisoners are innocent people sold to US Gov' - former detainee
- The Guardian: A decade ago a boy, Omar Khadr, was sent to Guantà ¡namo. Send him home Sept. 2012

Poster 'pawnstorm12' at DailyPaul.com first broke the story about Beck's comments in a discussion thread titled Glenn Beck: "They should shoot all the Gitmo Prisoners In the Head" (7-9-2013). The contentious discussion thread has generated 5 pages of comments on the site.
Beck also said the exact same thing about shooting Gitmo prisoners in the head in 2008, as reported by crooksandliars.com. Critics of Beck established a website to try to get him fired for his remarks at that time.
