HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE MAY CONSIDER $9 BILLION IN NUCLEAR LOANS TODAY OR TOMORROW
PLUS: UPDATE ON OTHER HOUSE AND SENATE ACTIONS

We have learned that the House Appropriations Committee may meet this afternoon or tomorrow to consider the emergency supplemental funding bill. As we're reported before, the Obama Administration is trying to attach $9 Billion in new nuclear loans to this emergency funding bill. But there is no emergency on nuclear loans!
Please call your House members today (members of the Appropriation Committee especially--they are listed below) and tell them NO more nuclear loans. All members can be reached at 202-224-3121.
And please make sure that you, your networks, your friends and colleagues, have weighed in by e-mail too. You can send a letter against more taxpayer loans for new reactors here.
Other nuclear loan news
The good news is that last week's meeting of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee was cancelled over the nuclear loans issue. Although the Obama Administration has requested $36 Billion in new nuclear loans for next year (the $9 Billion would be an advance payment on that), the bill brought to the Subcommittee did not include any nuclear loan money! If you are in Wisconsin or Maryland, please call and thank Committee Chairman David Obey and Rep. Donna Edwards, who played key roles in keeping that $36 billion out of the bill.
The problem is that some members of the subcommittee do want the nuclear loan money and they objected when they found out it wasn't in there. Most notable and vocal were Democratic Reps. Chet Edwards (Texas), Chaka Fattah (Penn.) and Marion Berry (Ark.). If you are in their districts, or have networks in their districts--please flood their offices with phone calls! Tell them to stop wasting taxpayer money on the wealthy nuclear power industry.
