Headed for Jonestown

Many of the problems we face are rather simple, but the serious problem we face is the idol worship of globalism. The golden calf of globalism says unrestricted, free market capitalism will raise all boats. The fact is that most of the boats we are competing against are slave ships. Toyota opens auto plants in the United States, while GM opens auto plants in China.

Toyota buys small parts, light bulbs, window glass, and side mirrors locally, but keeps inhouse the high value items such as engines, transaxles, and transmissions. That is where the profit is. Two years ago Toyota gave all of their employees a bonus, all of their Japanese employees that is. GM is the second largest automaker in China and GM manufactures everything for their Chinese vehicles in China, so the net gain for the US economy from GM in China is zero.

When the federal government subsidized GM's bankruptcy to the tune of $50 billion, it was promised nothing in return for its generous investment in GM. The President said, "We won't tell GM where or when to open factories," and GM opened one factory in the United States and two in Mexico. Chrysler has opened none in the US and one in Mexico. This shouldn't be construed as an attack on Barack Obama, the Democrat, but on Barack Obama, the idol worshiper.

Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh love to rail about big government, but they never rail about big government helping big corporations to move overseas. Does that mean that they aren't good conservatives? No, they are idol worshippers who get paid by the same people who want to move the company to jack up the stock price, make a killing in the market, and then move on looking for fresh meat.

The media frames the issue that we all must worship the golden calf and that it is heresy to believe otherwise. The golden calf is a fact of life and you must accept it, you must! During the Renaissance, Venice was the most successful state in Europe. Its art and workmanship and science exceeded all other European states. Its tax code was very simple: it taxed all imports and exports at the same rate. If imports rose, the treasury did well. If exports rose, the treasury did well.

Because Venice was known the world over for art and craftsmanship, artists and craftsmen flocked to Venice, and the treasury did well. Now suppose some smart Venetian businessmen arranged to have lower-paid artisans and craftsmen from Genoa and Corsica create the work and then sell it as Venetian art. The businessmen would make a fortune, and they wouldn't have to pay the Venetian taxes. Soon, however, the secret would get out that these fine works of art were only licensed from Venice and this wonderful craftsmanship was really from Genoa and Corsica. Suddenly the value of all things Venetian retreats and the value of all things from Genoa and Corsica rises.

The artists and merchants, the shippers and the craftsmen with their pockets full of Venetian gold would ask themselves, "What do we need these guys for?" The thriving domestic market for Venetian art would soon disappear, as well. The artists and shippers and merchants would move on to Genoa and Corsica. The Venetian government would struggle to fund the Navy to defend the Venetian ships from pirates waiting outside the lagoon, but eventually even the pirates would leave.

They took a dollar's worth of silver and made a silver plate worth ten dollars. They took ten dollars worth of marble and made a statue worth a hundred dollars. Today a machine with ten cents worth of plastic can make a play ground that sells for ten dollars. Five thousand dollars worth of steel, plastic, and cloth becomes a thirty thousand dollar automobile. Venice did not and could not grow rich through cartage and shipping; Venice grew rich on manufacturing.

The idol worshipers of the golden calf say, "No, no, that's not true. All benefit who have faith and believe!" Mark Twain said, "Faith is believing what you know ain't so." We know all the world is a stage, and these so-called leaders are but actors and the Republicans blame the Democrats and Democrats blame the Republicans. They throw a few rocks and a few names around for good measure, like socialist or xenophobic, big government small government, but at the end of the day you'll find them both with their prayer shawls on their prayer rugs worshipping the golden calf of free trade.

S,o as Democratic poll numbers drop, there is no corresponding rise in Republican numbers because the public is quickly growing agnostic.

From the Associated Press-- President Barack Obama announced Saturday the awarding of nearly $2 billion for new solar plants that he said will create thousands of jobs and increase the country's use of renewable energy sources. Obama disclosed the funding in his weekly radio and online address, saying it is part of his plan to bring new industries to the U.S.

"We're going to keep competing aggressively to make sure the jobs and industries of the future are taking root right here in America," Obama said.

The two companies that will receive funds from the president's $862 billion economic stimulus are Abengoa Solar, which will build one of the world's largest solar plants in Arizona, and Abound Solar Manufacturing, which is building plants in Colorado and Indiana. The Obama administration says those projects will create more than 2,000 construction jobs and 1,500 permanent jobs.

Abengoa Solar is a Spanish company that has built its name and reputation on European Union-funded projects, building on the technology first proven under the Carter administration. Now we will pay them to build that technology here and when completed the money will go there. Progressive politics says that you build something and when it is completed you have the knowledge and technology to duplicate it. Regressive politics says you pay someone else to do it for you and when it is completed, you've learned nothing.

Abound Solar is an American company, but the article gave no details as to what they are doing with the money. Are we building them a factory? How much are we giving them and for what? Abengoa is going to be building the solar plant in Arizona. Is Abound Solar going to be supplying light bulbs, window glass and side mirrors for the project? Is this a cover to say, "See, American's are involved if not in charge,"?

Of more than $2 billion of government funding for wind power, two-thirds has gone to foreign owned corporations.
