These advertisers have made a commitment to using radio, both network and local, in 2012. They help to underwrite the cost of sponsospecific programs and/or services. Theyî ‚¬ ‚¬ve specifically asked that you schedule their commercials in dayparts or programs free of cont know are deemed to be offensive or controversial (for example, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Tom Leykis, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Hannity). Those are defined as environments likely to stir negative sentiment from a very small percentage of the listening public.
Rush Limbaugh. Sean Hannity. Glenn Beck. Mark Levin. Michael Savage. Tom Leykis.
Some "shock jocks". All "socially conservative." They've all been on the air for years, unattended by the public at large. Criticized, yes...censured, no. They've been called misogynistic, homophobic, racist, xenophobic and every "anti" that can be imagined. It is a wonder that sponsors haven't pulled out long before the "Sandra Fluke Incident."
But Sean Hannity seemed the least criticized of the lot: his ties to the Christian Right may have had something to do with his invulnerability, his tenure at FOX unshakable because he eagerly pandered to Christian Right luminaries like Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council and Mike Huckabee. From decrying the dangers of sex education to defense of the Christian Taliban, Hannity seemed to say and do anything he wanted as long as it defended the exploits of his boss (Rupert Murdoch) and his ratings base (Right Wing Christian Conservatives).
Oh, how the mighty have fallen: 90 steps down, to be exact.
The Late Great Glenn Beck.
When Glenn beck relinquished his FOX spot due to poor ratings (and a dirth of Vicks Vapo-Rub), he didn't stop his onslaught against left-wing entities like George Soros and the Tides Foundation. The Sandra Fluke affair, however, may deliver the coup de gras.
Michael Savage
"Get AIDS and die, you f*ggot!"
Truly a shock jock who makes Howard Stern blush with his extreme hatred, Michael Savage has been, like Fred Phelps, barred from entering Great Britain. And even though he has not weighed in about the Sandra Fluke situation, he doesn't have to: people KNOW what he's thinking, and it isn't pretty. His comments might make the rest of the group cringe.
Mark Levin
I want the leftists at MSNBC, CNN, and the other so-called news outlets who are dressed up as journalists but are nothing of the sort, I want you to understand something. You don't get to decide who the rest of us listen to. You don't get to decide who the rest of us admire. You're not going to succeed in driving Rush Limbaugh from the airwaves. I don't care how many cowardly Republicans you speak to. I don't care how many inside-the-beltway pseudo-conservatives you speak to and so forth.
Tom Leykis - Mr. Mysogeny
Of the Limbaugh-Hannity-Savage-Beck group, "shock jock" Tom Leykis stands out as the one most likely to have meant every one of Limbaughs words ...and not apologized for any of them. The subject of numerous lawsuits and controversies - mostly concerning privacy issues during scandals and crimes - Tom Leykis has garnered the reputation as a woman-degrader par excellence.** He personally went through 4 marriages (no children, thank God) and personally boasted that he paid for three abortions.
Leykis is an avowed atheist, which makes him a perfect throwaway for the Christian Right who will side with Hannity, the avowed Christian defender.
* Also, I'm not perfect.
**He one time ran a series of shows tutoring men on "how to get laid."
