President Obama speech, Belfast June 2013 by usembassylondon

What's wrong with the Republican's burning desire to impeach the president? If you lived here in the rural heartland, well sheltered from all those liberal, urban and coastal types, you would understand.

I do, because recently I was educated by a couple of locals while we sat at the bar of a neighborhood restaurant.   The larger topic was American politics.   I learned that our most important problem is really Obama, who we all know is a (expletive) socialist who was born in Kenya, who hates whites (except his white mother and white grandparents who raised him.)

I learned he should be impeached. But when I asked why, no one had a reason. Although I was reminded about when he declared what cars we will drive and how our corporations will be run because he saved General Motors.   Oh and he wants to kill old people with Obamacare.   That got my attention because I'm an old person.

As the lesson continued, I was taught that my political views were really off-base.   I defended myself by pointing out that I research my political positions by reading websites and newspapers that lean both right and left.

I then learned my big mistake is I don't watch Fox News.   As if that wasn't bad enough, I was also accused of watching MSNBC, which they taught me is filled with hate talk.   I won that point because I don't watch any news channels.   That didn't gain me much. I had made the unforgivable mistake of wanting our twice duly elected president to succeed.

Well, I love a good argument as long as it doesn't turn violent.   But during my lesson, one of my teachers almost stroked.   His outburst of rage was a bit alarming.   I said the lesson was over until he had control of his anger.

To his credit, he did.   He then stood up and sent a few more personal insults at me and my "racist" president.   Then, his spleen vented, he left as he explained my thinking to me and how wrong I am.

Those lessons have helped me understand other issues too. For instance,   I was reading about a company named Applied Materials.   It caught my attention because I've owned their stock in the past.   Among other things, they develop materials that go into solar panels.

This company, which is based in California, has built several solar panel factories in the last few years.     They're in Germany, China, Spain, India, Italy, Taiwan and one is even in Abu Dhabi.   The reason all these plants are being built in other countries is because their governments have policies for growing a renewable energy industry.

In other words, these governments influence and support their manufacturing industries.   But from what I learned from my friends, we don't want that here because it's too socialistic.   And I guess that we also don't want the 50,000 new jobs being created by Applied Materials in Germany alone.

We seem to be content to blame our continuing unemployment problem on our "socialist" president who should be impeached for any reason.   Anyway, his idea of creating "green jobs" is so idiotic.   The really informed folks here in the heartland know that "green jobs" are just some kind of liberal fantasy.

Want to hear a good one? Applied Materials opened the world's largest solar research center -- in Xian, China. I guess they just don't realize how idiotic that sounds. Well who needs "em anyway?

So, like Thomas Freidman said, "if you like importing oil from Saudi Arabia, you're going to love importing solar panels from China."   But we can find consolation in the fact that we're not going to slide into socialism without a fight.

As a matter of principle, we don't want the government involved in our businesses, no matter how good it might be for the country. It's a slippery slope. The next thing you know government, labor, business, and academia might even begin to coordinate their efforts.   Who could possibly want that? Except maybe the ranks of our unemployed and underemployed, who are in that condition because of their character flaws.

Well, the good news is that I now know that our problem is a simple one. It's our socialist president and he's stealing our country.   This fact doesn't bother me so much.   Because by the time he succeeds in stealing it, our country will be owned by China.   So he's really stealing it from them.   That can't be too bad, can it?   I continue to learn and grow.
