These are strange times.
The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan seem to have disappeared from the media. The propaganda efforts have achieved a new posture: from false reporting to no reporting. Not misinformation, not denial, but virtual disappearance of the reality.
What now concerns the citizens? The most recent poll I came across had the WAR ranked a distant FOURTH. Yes, I know, the bloody ECONOMY, then blather, blather, then NUMBER FOUR the WAR.
Is it over? Not bloody likely. We've markedly -- for the time being -- reduced AMERICA'S incidence of dead "heroes" by re-distributing the Iraqi sects and building walls around their respective neighborhoods, and by paying Iraqis and Afghanis more to slaughter their own citizens while our guys hunker down in the Green Zone or one of our 400 bases throughout the area. The meager propaganda we're allowed extols this as the brilliant success of the "surge" strategy.
And now comes the Messiah Barack who intends to increase the total armed forces by 90,000 troops. Also, to increase the American force in Afghanistan by five brigades, apparently in an endeavor to win something or other there, something that the Russians failed in, something that the Brits failed in, and something that anyone else who tried failed in, going back to Alexander the Great.
If, by the way, you wonder in the lack of news that the war still proceeds, you'll need to access foreign sources, which is quite possible on the WEB. The Arab (they are people, lest we forget) sources are especially good in depicting the slaughter as indeed quite lustily proceeding.
One caveat here, however, is that you may wind up on some list or the other. Precisely what list and whose? If you're fortunate you'll never know, but whatever the authority, it is supported by your tax dollars.
So the phantom war proceeds, but wait, there's more!
As for Iran, "No option is off the table!" as resolutely stated by the Messiah Barack. Can anyone here detect a major divergence from the Bushco madness: "All options are on the table"?
Does this mean we'll next be "defending freedom and spreading democracy" in Iran? Do people stay up all night moiling over such bullshit in endeavor to fool us? Well, guess what: to a great extent they're succeeding. The focus of the citizens has pretty much narrowed down to the ECONOMY, and the voice of the political opposition (?) has been silenced in fear of being perceived as unpatriotic.
The wisdom being neglected here is that if the lust for war is allowed to morph ever more robustly, it will not only consume the “enemy” but actually that bloody ECONOMY we’re preeminently concerned about, and perhaps eventually a consortium from among the other six billion people of the world may consider they can no longer afford America’s savage perspectives and do what they must do to stop them. (Sends a shiver?)
More: If I could possibly have this particular bit of madness right -- There are now programs to construct American missile sites in Poland and Czechoslovakia, both commonly regarded as Russia's backyard, validly considered such not only by proximity but by virtue of history and ethnicity.
Heard anything from Messiah Barack about this? Well, we got a response from President Putin last week. His new program is to build an additional 300 missiles. Any guesses where these beauties will be pointed? Hint: it won't be Switzerland!
Our government appears to be out of control excepting for that of the greed meisters. There is no courageous political opposition except for the forlorn and lonely figures who are popularly discounted as freaks or -- worse -- unAmerican. The media are either controlled or in zombie state. And the electorate is obtuse beyond the ECONOMY.
So what's the problem? To paraphrase a famous American: "It's the WAR, stupid."
The cure is the PEACE. And -- all other organs having failed us or complicit in the treachery -- the solution is entirely in the hands of the citizens.
Americans desperately need to wake up, before we destroy ourselves.
