Every so often, the Freepers fool me into getting worried about someone they tout as the “up and coming next best thing of the Republican Party.” It has happened twice now and I am sure it will happen again. The denizens of Free Republic, http://www.freerepublic.com (aka Freepers) are the source I use to determine what is going on in conservative America. I think this makes sense. You don’t go to a Democratic leaning website to find out what Republicans are excited about. Just as with their excitement over Fred Thompson in the early going of the last Republican Presidential Primary, I started to be concerned over the Freeper’s portrayal of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal as their dynamic new standard bearer and potential 2012 candidate.
After last night, I stopped worrying.
The moment Bobby Jindal came into view of the camera last night, a friend next to me said he had the look of a deer in headlights. That is probably what prompted the as yet unidentified voice from MSNBC that thought it had an inactive microphone to mutter “Oh God” along with the laughs one heard in the background see http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/02/25/msnbc-introduction-gov-jindal-oh-god/ .
That was the highlight of Jindal’s appearance.
Not only is Jindal not ready for prime time, he’s not even ready for nap time. His performance was so bad it was even derided on Free Republic and right leaning news media like National Review. Said Jim Geraghty of National Review:
Like Ramesh and Kathryn, I thought the text of Jindal's argument was fine, but the governor's delivery just wasn't working for me. He seemed to have somehow figured out a way to speak too quickly and too slow at the same time. (A couple readers, who wanted to rave about him, agreed, using terms like "robotic" and "Mr. Rogers.") His remarks sounded like they were being read aloud, not spoken naturally.

and here are some of the comments from those Freepers who loved him only 24 hrs ago at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2193410/posts :
I thought everything sucked. From the faux presidential entrance to his nervous start to his weird smile to his Mr Rogers cadance to his hand moves. It was a disaster.
I could not believe this was the cool calm Jindal I (watched) tear up Gregory on MTP a couple days back. It was ugly.
Palin is smiling tonight.
What a missed opportunity for capitalism and freedom. Bobby Jindal will never be president. Ain’t gonna happen. Nope.
Jindal was a train wreck.
We can’t afford to just support someone cuz they’re ‘our guy or gal’
"Was he delivering a major speech to America or reading a children’s bedtime story?"
This man does not come across as a leader. If this is the best we can do for a leader, we are in really poor shape. Sarah Palin, given all her “deficiencies”, comes across as a much stronger leader. Where are the leaders who can understand minorities and women?
Jidal’s delivery was embarrassingly awful. He’s definitely not ready for prime time.
