The primary drawback is that the sins of our fathers have followed us into the 21st century, and what do I mean by the sins of our fathers? The common meaning of sin is a moral wrongdoing, an offense against God or a mis-deed. From my perspective, it appears that the holy fathers of religions have passed down a great amount of sin. By this, I am meaning judgment, greed, theft, murder, power, condemnation, prejudices, bigotry, immorality in the Holy See, mosques and pulpits along with decadence, the suppression of women and a host of other so-called sins. These leaders of religion do not have lily-white hands nor have they ever been icons of love and honor to the majority of people. The leaders of countries including kings, emperors, presidents, etc also do not have lily-white hands. None of them has really thought about the common good of the people and all of these mis-deeds are still with us.
What I am observing today is a breakdown of the economy, values, morals and a fight for power. It would seem that we are living in a labyrinth of evil, which is only the word live spelled backwards. We cannot depend on our governments, legislators, priests, and others in places of power to guide us. It is time for each of us to assume responsibility for our lives and how we choose to live.
I am fortunate to have grown up during the Great Depression and seeing seen the drastic changes that has brought the world situation to where it is today. It is an opportunity for each of us to rise above adversity and to create a future that we want to live in. It is possible. It is time to each of us to take charge of our life.
I have contemplated this, and I am changing my life each day. I will share with you some thoughts that I ask myself. This is an evolution of my life and I have included these in my book Awakening the Genie Within. I have written down statements in a personal journal and I read them every morning.
* Life is a Journey of Discovery. What am I discovering today?
*Life is a Journey of Creating. What am I creating today?
*We are creatures of habit. A snake sheds its skin. Am I ready to shed a habit?
*It's a new day. What am I creating?
*When was the last time I was filled up with joy? Look within and I will find it.
*Kindness is similar to casting a pebble into a pool of water. It ripples out and continues onward.
*An open mind is never filled up. A closed mind stifles life.
*Open the mind and expect wonderment.
*An open mind is the Doorway to Freedom.
*A closed mind can only be opened from within.
