Before we decide if the latest attacks by Senator McCain and Governor Palin against Senator Obama are accurate, we should understand what they are.

McCain said on "Meet the Press" on October 26, 2008: "So we have a stark difference. Senator Obama wants to "spread the wealth around." At a rally in Florida on October 26, Palin said, "Sen. Obama wants to spread the wealth, which means the government taking your hard earned money and doling it out."

As an aside, it is interesting that Palin did not hesitate to take the hard-earned $150,000 in new wardrobe or the $32,000 for a make-up artist for two weeks that the Republican National Committee handed her. Admittedly, she did not use 1/3 of the wardrobe. However, perhaps that was because the story broke when the campaign was only 2/3 finished. Possibly she was planning to use the last $50,000 worth of clothes in the final two weeks of the campaign.

Anyways, it is natural for McCain, who never made much money on his own, but married a woman who inherited 100 million dollars, to be concerned about his wealth being spread around. Sarah Palin, who seems to have made most of her million plus dollar fortune from government based programs is also naturally concerned. Yet not so concerned that she does not put her money into socialist schemes: "The vice presidential candidate and her husband, Todd, appear to direct most of their income into tax-advantaged retirement accounts such as an IRA, state pension plans and Todd's 401k with the oil company BP." (from  Capital Eye: click here) All of these can be considered government-based programs for sharing the wealth.

They appear to be predominantly concerned about keeping their loot than helping others without to obtain some. But should they show such concern? Perhaps we should  tell them to open a Bible and read it:Mark 10:21 (American King James Version)

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said to him, One thing you lack: go your way, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Mattthew 19:21 (King James Version) Jesus said to him,

If you will be perfect, go and sell that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Luke 18:22  (King James Version)

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said to him, Yet lack you one thing: sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

 Luke 12:33 (New World Translation)

"Sell your material possessions, and give the money to the poor. Make yourselves wallets that don't wear out! Make a treasure for yourselves in heaven that never loses its value! In heaven thieves and moths can't get close enough to destroy your treasure.

To paraphrase Jesus, "Spread the Wealth"

Or perhaps we should remember what that famous Catholic Philosopher from Africa, Saint Augustine, said:

 3. Do not call anything your own, but hold all that you have in common. And let distribution of food and clothing be made by your superior - not to all alike, because all have not the same strength, but to each one according to his needs. For thus you read in the Acts of the Apostles: "But they had all things in common... and distribution was made to each, according as anyone had need."
