If you are straddling the fence regarding giving up meat or even lessoning your intake of it, then you will probably benefit from reading "Meat Climate Change: The 2nd Leading Cause of Global Warming" by Dr. Moses Seenarine.
The most often reason for people giving up meat is their concern for animals. For many of us compassion for animals is enough. But for others who continue to eat meat on a daily basis, Dr. Seenarine realizes that the vast majority have to recognize the very serious harm they are doing to the environment with a largely meat dietary existence.
As the title of his book attests, he calls meat-eating the 2nd leading cause of global warming. Although perhaps some of us have been aware of this threat to the well-being of our earth for some time, we seem reluctant to recognize that it is up to each one of us individually to do something about it. Until we decide to significantly cut down on animal consumption, the threat of global warming will not go away. The "let George do it" mentality will never work here if we really care. There just are not nearly enough "Georges".
What is also frightening is the statistics in his book stating that the demand for animal products projected from 2013 to 2025 will increase by 50%. How much better it would be if the statistics instead projected our meat consumption showing a decrease of 50%. Then obviously there would be hope for a much healthier environment.
Read Dr. Seenarine's book for more insights and inspiration on this much needed reminder that the earth's health is in each one of our hands.
