Mexican Supreme Court Upholds Abortion Law, Citing Human Rights

With an 8 (for) to 3 (against) vote in Mexico's Supreme Court, the April 24, 2007 law making abortion legal in Mexico, under any circumstance during the first twelve weeks of pregnancy, is now deemed constitutional.  On Thursday, August 28, 2008, eight justices agreed that the case of unconstitutionality brought before the Court by the National Attorney General's Office and the National Human Rights Commission against the new law was without basis. In 2004, Rady Ananda joined the growing community of citizen journalists. Initially focused on elections, she investigated the 2004 Ohio election, organizing, training and leading several forays into counties to photograph the 2004 ballots. She officially served at three recounts, including the 2004 recount. She also organized and led the team that audited Franklin County Ohio's 2006 election, proving the number of voter signatures did not match official results. Her work appears in three books.
