The oil barons, the CIA, and an elite cadre of individuals are aware of peak oil and have been for a number of years. If you don't know what peak oil is you should start with this video by Dr. Bartlett (view all eight parts) and then Google "peak oil' to begin to understand how dependent our nation is on oil. You will learn that without viable and timely substitutes for oil, our economy, our culture, and our very survival is in question. It is clear, that without drastic change in the way humans interact with nature and themselves, large populations will face extreme poverty, hunger, and death in coming decades.
If you think you understand what peak oil is but haven't seen this video, you probably don't really understand what peak oil means at all. Take my word for it.
Given the above, our ruling elite have made a basic decision: to secure the resources they need to maintain their lifestyle at all costs, even if those costs include the destruction of democracy, civility, and the rule of law. This decision is motivated entirely by fear. Those who subscribe to this strategy have determined that there is no peaceful way now to allocate resources; that the only certain way to secure resources is through economic and military domination. End of story.
The rest is commentary. Armed with what you will learn by doing the research I suggest, you will begin to understand the major events that populate the news, our national response to them, why those in power do the things they do, and why it all seems so bazaar to those who don't understand the fundamental forces at work.
You don't have to understand peak oil to accept the ruling class' answer to it. There is enough distrust, anger, fear and vindictiveness in the world that strategists can tap into to create the misleading propaganda necessary to convince an unsuspecting population to ratify or accept the extreme strategies they employ.
These strategies so far include the false flag attack of 9/11, unconscionable acts of war, decimation of constitutional protections, tax code privileges for the few, bank bailouts, and the confiscation of assets such as the homes and savings that once resided in the hands of the evaporating middle class, the poor, the undereducated and others who are vulnerable. As public resources dry up this impoverishment will include the decimation of public services and amenities that reside in the commons and benefit the general public.
Though never honestly explained, these strategies come out of the basic unwritten, unexpressed, decision to secure resources at all costs for the benefit of those who rule. Those who are at the center of this effort believe they are doing what they have to do, and will one day be seen as heroes for doing so. Of course those who will one day temporarily see them as heroes will be members of their own shrinking exclusive class since everyone else will have been marginalized, reduced to serfdom or otherwise impoverished, imprisoned, banished or killed in the process.
In the final chapter, the perpetrators will themselves be destroyed and perhaps then a new age will begin. In time, history will again admire the ruins of the present day pyramids and coliseums we have built which will stand as monuments to our common stupidity like the ones we see today decaying in Rome or in the middle of the Egyptian desert.
