National advertisers give Limbaugh the bum's rush; local radio stations next?

Message Matthew Thuney

Following right-wing gasbag Rush Limbaugh's on-air attacks against Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke, advertisers fled his radio show in droves. About the only thing left on-air during Limbaugh's inflammatory rants is dead air punctuated by the occasional public service announcement.

Nonetheless, this over-inflated caricature of a has-been entertainer continues his assault on women, minorities and hard-working Americans as if nothing ever happened.

But something has happened. For one thing, Limbaugh's grisly killer clown mask has been ripped off leaving his vicious message of hatred laid bare for all to see.

For another, as the official propaganda minister of the Republican Party, Heir Limbaugh has also exposed the Republican agenda which was heretofore cloaked in a thin veil of faux patriotism, phony libertarianism, and fundamentalist White Pride.

On closer examination, it's easy to see that the Republican Party wants desperately to put women back in their place (presumably sans contraception), send people of color back to the rear of the bus (piloted by a white, minimum-wage non-union driver), and reduce working-class Americans to the status of serfs (Arbeit Macht Frei, my friends).

Seen enough? Then maybe you've heard enough, too. It's clearly not enough that Limbaugh limps along without sponsors--he's already made megabucks fueling the fears of paranoid "dittoheads" who, following his bombastic tirades, blithely go out and vote against their own best interests.

Take the next step: contact your local Washington State radio stations. Tell the program directors that you'd prefer to listen to something newsworthy, informative, interesting, rather than being bombarded by bile from a bumbling buffoon.

The public airwaves need not be polluted by prejudiced propaganda. Whatever happened to good old local programming?
