Not long ago, I published an article on on the co-optation of Neurodivergence by 'Neurodiversity' advocates:
I'd now like to give what is perhaps a somewhat more systematic discussion of so-called 'Neurodiversity' than I've provided up to now.
Crony-capitalism or toxic corporatism fosters a culture of geniality, sunniness and 'all-in-this-togetherism,' a philosophy hardly less discreditable than the 'Everybody Shareskyism' that the Chinese novelist Lao She portrayed in his rather Orwellian novel 'Cat Country/City of Cats.' (Or if you prefer, was Orwell a Lao-She-ian? Let's be even-handed here!)
On that note, it's hard to deny the world of toxic corporatism itself makes a fetish of even-handedness. The world of Neurodiversity is a world where people must rub along together nicely; any friction, any burn or scrape is a sign either of objective evil, or of abject ignorance. Anything less than a smoothly running social machine cannot be deemed an unfortunate happenstance, intrinsic to the inherent nature of reality as it is, and not as it ought to be, Rather, such friction must be deemed as intrusion, wrecking, vandalism; it is something which has maliciously 'snuck in from the outside.'
Just like how the Party has been corrupted by the infiltrating bourgeoisie, or the Ummah has been subverted by kafrs and apostates, or Christendom has been corroded by the lies and self-seeking opportunism of 'the Jew, the Turk and the infidel heretic.'
Or as I put it in the article I've referenced above:
'Thus, as a neurodivergent individual, I am free to identify as neurodivergent, provide I agree to be assimilated in the cozy, warm, cuddly world of Neurodiversity. The Golden Kingdom of Neurodiversity is optimistic, sunny, and most of all, flamboyantly sexy.'
Call it what you will: false consciousness, ingratitude, ignorance, or just good old 'failure to recognise your own objective interest.'
Of course, someone may object:
'This sounds like overly suspicious talk, Jonathan. Do you seriously think advocates of Neurodiversity are somehow promoting some covert Marxist agenda? In this postmodern age, very few people believe in false consciousness or objective interests. Everybody knows that is antiquated nonsense, so you are fighting a strawman, aren't you?'
I concede the point; or most of it, at least. No, those advocating Neurodiversity are not Marxists; not all of them are socialists either. Indeed, fairness, I would expect to find Neurodiversity advocates across the whole mainstream centre-left/centre-right spectrum. But then again, my sarcastic references to 'false consciousness' and to 'objective interest' are not actually intended to endorse the canard that progressives are advocating so-called 'Cultural Marxism.'
