Palace of the King

From deep within the truth will rise
Cross your heart and hope it dies
To all that's false, enter paradise
A living message from the king.
The path of least resistance sets the course
Reveals the ease of gain through loss
Two sides to the coin -- each gives the other a toss--
Lose the yang and lose the yin
Gain the Palace of the King.
****
Of water and fire, sky and earth
From the palace gates you were given birth
To lay down your life for all it's worth--
Ransom for a world of sin.
So let the vultures gather as the end draws near
Hanging on the edge of that last frontier
Open your heart you got nothing to fear--
Your death will hold no sting
In the Palace of the King.
*****
The truth is riding on the buzzards back
Preparations made, ready to attack
In the Dark Night there's no time to pack
What you've gathered you cannot bring.
Taken by surprise, the coup's been flown
Taken back to the nest picked to the bone
There's nothing that's left you can call your own--
Now resting on the buzzard's wing
Fly to the Palace of the King.
****
In clouds of glory your neck's in a noose
Will you let yourself hang or cut yourself loose?
It's too late now to call a truce--
Ride on on the scavenger's wing.
The time has come for you to choose
Leave the past behind, no time to muse
The life you save will be the life you lose--
Slip off the noose or let yourself swing
Into the Palace of the King.
****
Within your heart the truth's been sown
In the dead of winter the cold wind's blown
Scattered seed over fertile ground turned stone--
Let Winter resurrect itself in Spring.
Leave the icy winds, the clinging vine
That choked the seed, enter the shrine
Where the truth is burning--let it shine
Within your heart let it all begin
In the Palace of the King.
****
The truth is in fashion, you're no antique
But are you in it for real or just one more freak?
Doing what you do just to be unique--
One more trendy, genuine manakin.
Each of us in time will shed the guise
Reveal who we are behind all the lies
Embrace the naked truth without compromise--
Put ourselves on the line, hang up everything
For the Palace of the King.
****
But where is the truth when you fear the unknown
When your lost in the crowd and won't stand alone
Say goodbye to yourself as someone elses clone--
What you're losing is not worth saving.
There's talk around town that you've found the real you
And you play to the rumors, but you know it ain't true
You go through the motions, but you haven't a clue--
As to who you are, or how you might win
The Palace of the King.
****
You're still hungry for power, silver, and gold
With each coin you count you're on the threshold
Of the kingdom you're building on the soul you've sold
While the Palace rests on nothing.
What started out small has long since grown
Into a beast of burden you can't disown
'Till you take off the crown, step down off your throne
The wheel remains in spin
For the Palace of the King.
****
So you hedge your bets defending the stolen crown,
Face to face with the truth, who's goin' down?
If you go the distance you'll have world renown--
The fighter steps into the ring.
That last bell tolls, you hear the sound.
You jump to your feet for that final round
While that still, small voice urges you to the ground
Saying "Here when you lose you win"
The Palace of the King.
****
But you're left still standing, hands clutching the bars
The bitter taste lingers--you carry the scars
Begging for pardon--bribing the guards
Waiting for yourself to spring.
But nobody's buying what you've got to sell
Just one question remains, but you've nothing to tell
'till you're knocked senseless in that solitary cell
Where in silence the jailbird sings
For the Palace of the King.
****
Whatever's been done, now you must undo
Try to tighten the lid, try to turn the screw
Try your hardest, but you'll never subdue
The beast's slave with empty discipline.
Let yourself go, you cannot force
Your way through the gates back to the source
The goal is the path of no remorse--
Retrace your steps to where you been
To the Palace of the King.
****
Each step you take mounting bliss lures
You into the abyss, the beast withdraws
Nothing to be done to open the doors--
The key turns as you move within.
Returning to the world founded in bliss
Enjoy the juicy fruit, forget the serpents hiss
Turn back the pages to Genesis--
Rewrite the song and start to sing
In the Palace of the king.
****
Down the aisle on his grace she rides
Soul to the alter, herself by her side
The two for the one to be crucified--
On the razors edge the wedding begins.
At the journey's end now let the virgin mourn
Her death while waiting to be born
Consummated in love, forever sworn--
In wedded bliss death holds no sting
In the Palace of the King.
****
Yes, you're broken in two, now it's time to mend
Yourself together--learn to bend
'Till the two become one you must defend
Everything you're not to which you cling.
Your divided self feeds the karmic chain
Of events unfolding--break it or remain
Outside the gates you've been told again and again
"Within the palace you've always been
Both the Messenger and the King."
